I just made the 3 hour trip back from St. Louis. On June 30,09 I had AVR CEPM Bovine and my assending aorta srunk witha dacron wrap. Aftaer 4 units of bloold I went back ind to have a leak repaired. After that the hospital saty was uneventful/ (Thankd goodness). I was released today July 7. hopefully mmy recovery will continue to go well. I felt better on thr trip home than I have snice the surgery. Even with all my research and support from this site there is nothing that can prepare you for the actual event. I hope this fixes me because I don't know if I could talk myself into it again. am very tired so Just wanted to give this update.

John-

You have been through the wringer. It's understandable to be so very tired from all of that. The surgery itself makes you tired for quite a while, and you have an added attraction to make it even more so. Go easy on yourself, breathe, walk slowly and veg out a little.

Glad to hear from you, John, I was getting a little worried. Sorry that you had the complication, but it sounds like all is ok now. The first few weeks post-op are the worst, but you'll soon feel better. Start making plans now for the New Orleans reunion.:)

Welcome home, John.
So happy to hear you are safely over the mountain and on the road to recovery.
Take it slow and follow doctor's orders.
You've been through a lot and it takes time to recover.
You know the drill: sleep, breathe, walk, eat and repeat, again and again and again. :)

John:
Glad you are finally home.
Some folks have a very uneventful surgery and hospital stay. Others, like you, have had 2 OHS in the same day, for the same speed bump you ran into.
My surgery was uneventful, but I still felt like I had been hit by a Mack truck. Those Mack trucks know their way around the speed bumps.......

Good luck with your recovery at home.

And you thought you were going to get out of this easily.......Welcome to this side my friend. May you never have to do it again!

Can you imagine not having learned anything from us and then doing it?

Thanks for all the support. I know I could be complwtwrly crazy at this point without the knowledge and support of this board. It has also given me a new respect for those who have gone through mulitiple OHS.

No one understands what it's like until they've had it. ;)

By the way, did this Indian spirit visit you?

Man is that the truth. I understand noq qhy those facing addition surgery say it is the surgery not the frear of death that concerns them. I don't remember anything from the firsr surgery but I can remember people talking about how many pints of blood I had recieved and I knew I was going to have to go back in. I really thought I would not live through the second surgery. Fortunately I had an experienced surgeon who found and fixed the problem quickly.

I had no memories I can recall untill after the second surgery. When I would close my eyes I would see very vivid colors. There would be folks I know (still alive) and they would becoming through the colors and at first seemed angry. It was really strange.

I'm glad you are doing better, must have been a scarey time for all. Do you know where the leak was? It's good they caught it relatively early.

I will know more when I get a copy of my records but I think a pacer wire nicked a mamory artiery.

Glad you're alive and doing better by the day/week. What a nightmare, 2 surgeries so close together. I'm happy for you, relax and heal!

john- im with you brother but 5 weeks out so ican tell you the next few weeks are gonna be touch but within 4 weeks you will hopefully be feelin a whole lot better!- the same thing happened to me-they operated on me the second time in 24 hours in the ICU because the AV ruptured where they had put in the heart lung machine! the hardest part is behind you now. take a breath and thank god you are alove and start crawling then running down the mountain to put it behind you!
