i'm getting bored here in china, think it's time for a change. will be finishing
the semester in a month or so, visa runs out mid-august. what to do?
i'm thinking thailand is the place. yes, there has been some unpleasantness
lately, but i think pretty much restricted to bangkok. assuming things calm
down, could be moving this summer.
first have to arrange things with a school. why not study thai for a while?
it's loads easier than chinese. imagine....only 46 letters, not 90k characters!
next will have to take a two-day trip to kunming for thailand and laos visas.
with that done, i can return and sell/give away/unload most of my stuff.
the things i need can be sent by post. i don't need much.
finally, i can load up my bicycle and pedal eastwards. will cover half
of guangxi province, then yunnan province to the laotian border. at that
point can either catch a boat (if they're still running), or just bicycle
across laos. it's only 250km or so to the thai border. then a couple days
to a city (to be determined) in northern thailand. i think the hardest thing
will be to travel using mandarin-thai or mandarin-lao phrasebooks.......
if i can find them.....
if all goes according to plan, the bicycle trip will begin around 10 july,
which will be AVR+6 months.
next on the agenda will be marathon training. there's khon kaen and
Chombueng international marathon in january, or phuket and angkor wat
in december. also in december, chiangmai marathon, where i may perhaps
possibly be moving to. that would be convenient.
