I know a lot of people like to wear their scar with pride and it will fade with time but I was wondering if anyone had had any success/could recommend any of the creams and oils on the market which help with scar tissue?

My Dr. said not to put anything on the scar BUT I have been using Aquaphor ointment lightly. I have had basal cell skin cancer removed twice and they gave me that to put on the incisions and they healed really well. 5 weeks so far and the scar looks great. The tube scars not so good but getting there.

You can probably do a search on scar creams, or scar healing, here, and bring up some of our conversations.

My understanding is that scars can hypertrophy (keloid -- become very raised and twisted looking) due to some confusion in healing. Mine did, it's continuing to flatten out as years go by, but it is rather red and ropey (hard and tender). I was told by many alternative medicine people to massage it, to keep the blood circulating and remind it to continue to heal properly.

Some people end up with a beautiful, skinny white line. Some of us don't. If we are prone to hypertrophy, I'm not sure there's much that can be done about it. Some, here have mentioned radiation treatments that have gone well.

When you choose a lotion, remember to also find some time each day to massage your healed wound in a circular fashion.

Good luck. The healing takes time. Be patient! You're gonna live a long time now... if this summer isn't good for a "revealing" look, next summer will be! :)

I used a couple of expensive one which caused me more itching. Then I gave 'E-Sil" a try and by the time the tube was empty, my scar was lighter and a part of the keloid section became flatter! Was is this treatment or a matter of time?! But, I am going to buy a new box.

Hi,

I may be one of those people Marguerite described, you almost cannot see my scar anymore.

I did use something to help the scar for the first 6 months. Also, I did not start using anything until the basic stitch wound healed over per the doctor's orders.

I used an oldtime treatment that my older neighbor told me of... "Coco Butter". You can get it in the drug store. It comes in a round tube. You just push it up, as you need it.

Anyone else ever try this one?

I went to BAAR.com and ordered something called "Scar Massage" or something close, I had pretty good results.
