For about 6-8 months prior to surgery I could not tolerate more than a small cup of coffee or soda. My heart would race and thump, and I got very jittery. In the hospital all i received was decaf. Blech. What's the point?!? I'm happy to say that one week after surgery I was enjoying my morning cup, my lunch cup, and my mid-afternoon cup with no racing heart and no jittering. As a matter of fact, at 10pm tonight I got a hankering for some joe, and brewed a pot. I probably won't sleep til the middle of next week, but I feel great. I'm so glad caffeine is no longer an issue for me. Your mileage may vary!
