Hello all,
I have been away from the forum for a while due to a ridiculous work load but I have a day to myself and I'm catching up on email and other personal stuff.
I scheduled an AVR operation for the 10th of Feb and unless something comes up, I should be out of the hospital five days later.
My overall mental state has been good, although my co-worker pointed out I've been chewing pencils down to stubs (I need the fiber anyway and I'm training for hospital food). We've had our biggest project of the year this week and my deadlines have been crazy, but Friday is my last day (working, not living) and I plan to take the weekend off with Heidi to relax, visit friends, mull over my will...etc.
Btw, I had a great consult with the surgeon and he seems very willing to take great care with my procedure.
Tip - mention to your surgeon that your uncle Vinnie "the butcher" is in the cement contracting business and that you're his favorite niece/nephew. This actually works.
My wife and I have prepared the house with a new sofa bed recliner thing which we put in my office. We put it there only because there's an adjoining bathroom - I plan on doing no work for at least a week, which, coincidentally, has always been my work ethic.
I did my pre-registration and pre-op testing on the 3rd. That went well. I had a great bunch of nurses and techs and they were very reassuring. I had a bit of a snag with admissions; just an insurance card mix-up. We worked it all out though.
Tip: Mention to the admissions person that your brother "the lawyer" is a partner in a huge firm and that you're his favorite sibling. This also works.
My mental state is great. My emotional state (for a male) is just as good and I'm not really stressing on the operation. I think my job and scheduling issues are far more of a pain in the butt that the actual surgery will be. Of course this surgery won't be on my butt, I was speaking metaphorically.
I'm giving Heidi my log-in info so she can post a message to let you guys know that I've survived and demanded more morphine.
David
