Just saw a article where an 88 year old lady was the oldest person in England to get AVR. It was done with the minimal invasive cath. delivered valve.

Remember, Its not how old you are but the kind of shape you are in that determines whether or not the surgeons will attempt a valve replacement. This lady probably has all her marbles and is in good shape. I'm not sure what the old age record is. Any body got any ideas?

She was mentally allert. However, she could not walk across the room without getting out of breath. This is the new cath delivered valve and has about the same risk as a heart stent and requires no on pump time and is done with the person awake. That is the purpose of this type of AVR to be able to do it on very weak people.

Yep. Thats right Ross. At least until they determine the long term success of failure of the procedure. However, it gives those with no hope before a chance.
