I would like to ask your opinion on my high INR. I have been on antibiotics and then Diflucan for 5 days. My inr last Monday was 4.2 so they had me cut my dose for that night to 2.5,then resume 5mg per day for 32.5 total. Today they said my INR is 4.83 and said to hold one dose then take 2.5 tommorrow and 5mg the rest of the week and retest on Monday. This would make my dose for the week 27.5.

After all this I could only take the antibiotic for 5 days instead of ten due to the yeast infection that I develop everytime and then after 5 days of doses they tell me I have developed resistance to the diflucan. I hate the rollercoaster ride. I am eating yogurt daily. Does anyone know if I can take the supplements to maintain the normal flora in my body with the Coumadin? I am kinda hesitant to take anything herbal etc. because I don't know how they will react.

Diflucan has a major interaction with warfarin. I have seen major bleeding with this. Please look at http://warfarinfo.com/fluconazole.htm
Before you start supplements you need to get your INR stabilized and then be tested every week until the INR becomes stable again. You will be treading unknown territory since supplements effects on warfarin are largely unknown.

Thanks Al,

I guess the Diflucan willl be a problem no more since it does not work! I will talk to the Cardiologist about a supplement. I will proceed with caution. Thanks for your input. I don't know what we would all do without your expertise!

I'm hoping to just avoid the antibiotics as much as possible.
