Second anniversary of my second AVR. Thanks to the Medical Teams!

Had my first AVR due to stenosis 4 years ago. Two years into that I got endocarditis. It caused damage to the replacement valve etc and the used a Homograph cadaver valve and root to repair the damage. But here I am still kickin' Our Heart Doctors and staffs are just incredible people! I can't...

Endocarditis, caused second OHS in three years, age 64

Well, like most OHS patients, warnings about endocarditis went in one ear and out the other. But of course I had to be attacked a "Rare" Strep Mitis bug that almost did me in! This past December I thought I had the flu. The symptoms are almost identical. The thing is that for valve replacement...

    Bump on sternum?

I have a bump on my sternum 4 months post op. it is 2-3 inches from the top and about 1/4 " high and1/2 " round. It doesn't hurt. I wonder if I ever over did it? I've never had sudden pain nor did I lift anything heavy for at least 8 weeks after OHS. My scar seems to be healing nicely and I feel...

Did anyone have a weight loss from surgery?

I went from 162 to 152 in the weeks after surgery. Since then I've put back on 9 lbs. Kinda nice to just shove it in w/o worrying about putting too much weight back on. I'm almost back to 162 and figure I should go for 165. I know as I exercise more I might even put on some muscle! I'm working...

    Strange complication.

Although my recovery has gone well, it has not been w/o complications. I went home after 5 days in the hospital. The first day home was mostly great w/ the exception of the normal discomfort. On the second day, my appetite went to hell and I felt nauseous. An old left side hernia was hurting so...

    Misc. Questions.......

I have a few questions re: stuff I've noticed. Anyone have answers to the following: Why do some people have 2-3 chest tubes and some only one? Does the tissue in the heart actually grow around the valve or are the sutures the only connection over time? What is the difference between a model...

    Exercise and walking

I'm in the fifth week post op after avr and things are peachy keen. I've noticed that if I walk before doing my upper body stretches that my chest incision and muscles aren't so irritated while walking. My physical therapist told me that the stretches are essentially a minor tearing of tissues...

1 month post op, Doing well! AVR & 1 bypass.

Hi fellow heart patients. I'm a month out from surgery and doing well I think. I'm 62 and I've been walking 3-4 miles a day and doing the upper body exercises my PT showed me.Other than muscle soreness and the tightness in my sternum, I'm good to go. I avoid lifting like the plague and I won't...
