    Very scared!!!!!

Trust the Docs! These heart guys today know so much it's scary! I had my first OHS in 2008. It was an Aortic valve replacement using a Bovine tissue valve. I was fine w/ no complications for two years. I then contracted endocarditis and it went untreated for at least 1 moth due to me thinking it...

    Echocardiograms.......

I would think, the more frequent tests would be a good thing as far as catching problems early.

Endocarditis, caused second OHS in three years, age 64

Well, like most OHS patients, warnings about endocarditis went in one ear and out the other. But of course I had to be attacked a "Rare" Strep Mitis bug that almost did me in! This past December I thought I had the flu. The symptoms are almost identical. The thing is that for valve replacement...

Best Wishes Irish! My OHS was in Febuary on Friday the 13th! Talk about tempting fate! But I'm fine, I feel great and it wasn't as bad as advertised. Hang in there and have faith in your doctors. I sincerely hope they solve the bleeding issue! You will be OK. I just know it!

    Bump on sternum?

I have a bump on my sternum 4 months post op. it is 2-3 inches from the top and about 1/4 " high and1/2 " round. It doesn't hurt. I wonder if I ever over did it? I've never had sudden pain nor did I lift anything heavy for at least 8 weeks after OHS. My scar seems to be healing nicely and I feel...

I should write a book on how to have heart surgery

WOW! Filing for divorce the day of your surgery. Whew! Meaner than a junk yard dog!. At first I got angry and wanted to bad mouth her but after my OHS I've become less prone to wish others ill or get angry period. I'm just sorry for you and her. What does intubation feel like?

Resperation tube no big deal! Resperation tube no big deal! I expected to wake up w/ a huge thing in my throat that I could see looming above my face and filling my throat and suffocating me. When I woke up I could not even see the tube as it was off to the side and then angled down totally...

    Smoking after valve replacement surgery

My wife calls me a Carrie Nation Health Nut. I quit smoking over 30 years ago. I eat well now and I exercise (walked 6 miles today). My AVR was 6 weeks ago. I could quote platitudes galore to no avail, but the bottom line is that without our health we have nothing!. I am so very grateful that I...

    The recovery time

I would imagine that men have few problems dealing w/ the scars. Whereas women might be upset at the appearance of an OHS scar. Notice how I do not claim to know anything for sure about women. I'm 62 and have learned less and less about women as time goes on. The scar on my left calf is gnarly...

Did anyone have a weight loss from surgery?

I went from 162 to 152 in the weeks after surgery. Since then I've put back on 9 lbs. Kinda nice to just shove it in w/o worrying about putting too much weight back on. I'm almost back to 162 and figure I should go for 165. I know as I exercise more I might even put on some muscle! I'm working...
