    Death of Tim Russert

I always liked Tim Russert...now I regret not having the time to watch this past primary season. I have a question though...if he was diagnosed with unsymptomatic cardiovascular disease, why did it take an autopsy to reveal an enlarged heart? Sudden cardiac death is often a result of...

holy ****!!! (scared out of my mind)

I don't post much but I do check in from time to time. You have an amazing amount of support here...and with your healthcare providors. I don't know your Dad or anything about him but some of the things you have quoted make him seem abusive. People mean really well when they suggest you take...

    Hey Nurses

Hey Mtnbkr, I am at the beginning of a career change to nursing. I found a local community college that offers a night/evening options. Clinicals are done on the weekends. So I'm working full-time and just started my nursing classes. I have a BS so had most of my prereqs done. I had to...

    Question about mitral valve

I had two echos showing a myxomatous valve and the most recent one stating mitral valve was normal. Supposedly the technology has gotten better. I don't see the cardio til December but I don't like the crap shoot. How many opinions do we need? Do we get ten, then go with the majority?

    Introducing Myself...

Sona.. Sorry, in really big hurry to get off on vacation. Small things like explaining terms and stuff go by the wayside when the beach is calling. I had to look up atrial..referring to the top two chambers of the heart. Septal...the walls between the chambers. Aneurysm...in this case not...

    Why Aren't Hospitals Cleaner? article

Very Ironic...I work for a local Health Department and my new coworker was just asking about the local hospital inspection and whether she was to do the whole place or just the kitchen. We do inspect the whole facility for environmental compliance: cleanliness, plumbing, lighting, bugs...

    Introducing Myself...

I too have mild AI, confirmed by three echos in two years. The most recent one said "there is a central jet of regurgitation." So mine is not off to the side. All echos also say my valve is trileaflet. Is your's definitely not bicuspid? I would love to know what is causing mine. I had my...

    Introducing Myself...

Hi! I have mild aortic insufficiency too found after a GI doctor heard a murmur and I had been having a lot of palpitations. They told me I had a myxomatous mitral valve too and were more focused on that but my last echo shows my mitral valve to be normal, so I don't know what the cardio will...

    What can I say?

I had the same thing happen to me recently. Somehow it came up that I had heart surgery as a kid and I saw the eyes go to my chest. Mine goes all the way around my side so you can only see it if I have a something on that's low cut in the back like a cami or a bathing suit.

    Afraid to live???

Hey Danielle, I have a couple of thoughts for you: Like Nancy said, being quiet is ok. I recently learned that introverts are not necessarily "shy", they just get energy from being alone and get drained from socializing. Extroverts, just the opposite. So you can be a shy extrovert or a...

    Conflicting Echos

Nancy, that's a good point about the quality of the imaging. I wonder which would be which though? Would a fuzzy picture make a normal valve seem not, and then a better picture make it seem OK? If so I'd think there'd be a lot of false positives around. I'd like to think Ross is right but...

    Conflicting Echos

Hi Ross, The echo reports say who they are read by and this was by one of the cardios in the practice..this is who she left the message for. My last echo was read by the doctor I usually see and who says we want to keep an eye on it cause it's myxomatous. If it weren't for the AI and this new...

    Conflicting Echos

Hi! It's been a while since I posted...I only have mild valve issues. However, I recently had an echo after two years. My previous echos had both noted a myxomatous mitral valve and mild AI. My cardio wants to follow especially the mitral valve. ANYWAY, the report says the AI is still mild...

    Mitral Valve Tear???

My mitral valve is myxomatous (jelly-like) and the cardio says it is at a higher risk of rupture of the chords that hold it in place. Perhaps that's what your cardio meant?

    occular migraines

Betty, I just say you take nortriptyline for your migraines...I've never heard of that! I take it for another pain condition..maybe that's why I haven't had the zig zags in a while. I'm on a very low dose though...10 mg but I also take neurontin. I wonder if neurontin helps with migraines too.

    occular migraines

I have blue eyes with yellow specks that make them look green. I've had the zig zags for years and only found out in the last 5 years what they were. Only recently, and only occasionally have they been followed by a headache. For me it seems like a stress thing. They happen once the stress...
