    10th AVR anniversary this summer.

I don't even for sure remember the date anymore but I think it was June 29th since I was hospitalizeed June 15th. I was at the hospital with severe heart failure, EF of 20-30%, 2 weeks before the surgery and 3 weeks after the surgery. Heart failure slowly got better the following years and since...

Is it possible to get off Metoprolol?

I have been on it ever since my surgery in 2005. First my dosage was 142.5 mg but was then reduced to 95 mg years ago. I think I had some side effects in the beginning but can't say I have noticed any the last 5 years or so. To thruthful I don't think it has any effect at all on me any more as...

    Still around.

I would only like to report that I'm still alive and doing really well heart wise. I had AVR with a mechanical valve in 2005 and joined this forum in 2006. I had really bad heart failure at the time of my surgery and still had heart failure a few years after my surgery but since then my heart...

    elevated heart rate

Hi, sounds like it could be atrial fibrillation. You're probably on anticoagulation therapy, right? For me the only thing that would put my heart back in sinus rhythm was electrical cardioversion, but it was only after I was put on amiodarone :( that my heart would not go back into...

    Think I am retaining fluid

Very strange... maybe they were referring to ST-segment in the EKG when they said unchanged? Do you know if the BNP/NT-proBNB has been measured in the lab tests? A normal value for BNP/NT-proBNB is often used to rule out CHF. Hope you get this sorted out asap or that it at least won't get any...

    Valerie Hope Raley Moriarty 02/29/1980-11/16/2009

My condolences to the family and loved ones. What a shocking news it was to read about such a sad and unexpected end for a person full of hope.

    Thumping in chest

Hi, as I remember I had a phase, beginning a few months after surgery and lasting matbe some months, where my valve had a loud/heavy "thumping sound" especially noticeable in bed. It was even like I felt the impact from the valve closing. Then it gradually settled down and has now been ticking...

    Shortness of breath and sleeping

Sounds like a ER visit to me, if it is CHF then it is bad idea to play the waiting game... In a hospital they have various durgs (i.e. diuretics) to help compensate for heart failure.

    Sluggish Heart?

Good point! I was more thinking slugglish like in weak/slow muscle function. I know that at least extreme starvation, like in anorexia, can also be a cause of bradycardia.

    Sluggish Heart?

I think it could be. Not eating well or getting adequate sleep will not give the body (including the heart) the nutrients and recovery it needs to function properly. And the emotional stress :(... no wonder. When I think about it, is a stress test under these conditions really a good idea? I...

    Anxiety attack or symptoms?

I hate this too and here is how I see it, Symptoms -> Discomfort/Anxiety (->) Panic/Anxiety attack Panic/Anxiety attack <-> Anxiety/Discomfort (->) Symptoms Symptoms rarely lead to a panic/anxiety attack and a panic/anxiety attack rarely lead to symptoms but bouth result in an, sometimes...

    My ticking don't sound right

Hi, sounds like it could have been a few PVCs (Premature Ventricular Contractions), which when they happen would produce a prolonged break between ticks and maybe also a more substantial closure of the valve leaflets. PVCs are in most cases benign and to my knowledge quite common among valvers.

    What can cause Endocarditis?

If it is a virus I think it could be myocarditis, a inflammation of the heart muscle tissue, whereas endocarditis effects the surface of the inside of the heart.

LV = 8.0 How bad is that?

I think you still have a very good chance of a full or nearly full recovery. I had end diastolic LV diameter measurements of up to 84 mm at the time of surgery and was hospitalized with severe heart failure 2 weeks before surgery after 3 very bad weeks... unknowing of my heart/valve condition. I...
