    Headaches-Migraines following surgery

I also get the auras like many others. I began getting them after surgery. Some days they go away with no headache and other days its followed by the headache. It is so hard to judge which one will cause the pain and which will not. I rarely had headaches until after the surgery. Now I get...

    25 years old and confused

I am another 25 year old and I have two mechanical valves in the aortic and mitral positions. I am male so I didnt have to worry about having children. You are not crazy at all if you decide to go with a tissue valve. You should have children and then see what happens.

Is Minimally Invasive Mitral Repair Possible?

I have personally had 2 OHS. My first was MI and the second sternotomy. They were unable to repair the mitral valve through the MI. I think and other surgeons I have spoken to say it was because of the MI, there is not as good of a view. It has been over a year and I am still having issues...

    Infection?

Congrats on the 5 weeks. I am not sure exactly on the spot, but I would recommend you call the surgeon to be safe. I know sometimes sutures can cause that, but I would call. Good luck.

minimally invasive versus sternectomy for MV repair for bileaflet prolapse

One year ago I underwent a thoracotomy instead of the sternotomy and I had many complications. They thought they could repair the valve but tried twice and had no luck and ended up replacing it. Other surgeons I have spoken with said the chance of fixong my valve would have been better with...

15 months out - doing fine and looking to become a PA

John, great choice on the career. I am going to do the same. The difference is that I am one of those students that is probably younger than your daughter. I still have 2 years left on the bachelors. Good luck.

    Post AVR

I guess I must be really lucky because I was able to roll onto my side as soon as my chest tubes came out. Thank you all for your info. I guess I will just give it some time and take it as it comes.

    Post AVR

Well I havn't been on here for a while but I thought I would let you all know that I had an AVR 2 weeks ago and am home and doing well. How long was it before you were able to sleep on your chest after a sternotomy? I am getting sick of laying on my back and side. Thanks, Mike

Choosing valve with active lifestyle and being 21

Hey Luke, I was in the same situation only 8 months ago. Like Morten I was 23 and needed a MVR. The surgeon told me that he recommended the mechanical at my age. I decided on the Mechanical valve to keep me out of the OR for a longer time. I am very athletic, basketball, baseball, hiking...

    Excessive sweating when I sleep

My surgeon and other docs said that most of the post op sweats are caused by anesthesia. I had it for about 2 months.
