Hello all,

I have been away from the forum for a while due to a ridiculous work load but I have a day to myself and I'm catching up on email and other personal stuff.

I scheduled an AVR operation for the 10th of Feb and unless something comes up, I should be out of the hospital five days later.

My overall mental state has been good, although my co-worker pointed out I've been chewing pencils down to stubs (I need the fiber anyway and I'm training for hospital food). We've had our biggest project of the year this week and my deadlines have been crazy, but Friday is my last day (working, not living) and I plan to take the weekend off with Heidi to relax, visit friends, mull over my will...etc.

Btw, I had a great consult with the surgeon and he seems very willing to take great care with my procedure.

Tip - mention to your surgeon that your uncle Vinnie "the butcher" is in the cement contracting business and that you're his favorite niece/nephew. This actually works.

My wife and I have prepared the house with a new sofa bed recliner thing which we put in my office. We put it there only because there's an adjoining bathroom - I plan on doing no work for at least a week, which, coincidentally, has always been my work ethic.

I did my pre-registration and pre-op testing on the 3rd. That went well. I had a great bunch of nurses and techs and they were very reassuring. I had a bit of a snag with admissions; just an insurance card mix-up. We worked it all out though.

Tip: Mention to the admissions person that your brother "the lawyer" is a partner in a huge firm and that you're his favorite sibling. This also works.

My mental state is great. My emotional state (for a male) is just as good and I'm not really stressing on the operation. I think my job and scheduling issues are far more of a pain in the butt that the actual surgery will be. Of course this surgery won't be on my butt, I was speaking metaphorically.

I'm giving Heidi my log-in info so she can post a message to let you guys know that I've survived and demanded more morphine.

:D Good Luck to you my friend in the soon to be mended heart society. The weekend prior to my surgery I too spent time with my family. My husband and I had a date night on that Friday, then on Saturday my daughters and I went shopping then Saturday night we went to our local asphalt track to watch our son race his car. I waited until Sunday when we were alone to give my husband my Advance Directive (just in case). He took it pretty well, at least he didn't faint or cry.... Anyway, tell Heidi that I will be looking forward to her update on the 10th...:)

David, congrats on making a date.....are you trying to get out of Valentine's Day obligations?
Or are you wanting to impress Heidi on V-Day with your mended heart?
Either way, it's best to get it done so that you will be ready to sail in the late spring. :)

David,
I put your surgery date on the calendar, so you're officially "official"!;)
Best wishes!

I love your attitude and I know you are going to do just fine. Best Wishes!

David what are you tring to do by getting the jump on me(mines the 11th).From reading your other post I know you'll do just fine.Keep the sense of humor and I'll beat you to post the results even though I'm a day behind you.Good-Luck!!!!!!!

My mental state is great. My emotional state (for a male) is just as good and I'm not really stressing on the operation.
I was the same way ..totally calm and felt that things would go well.
I also had my OHS in the beginning of Feb, matter of fact,I was in the
hospital on Valentines and you should have seen all the flowers I got
from my husband (and others;))
Wishing you the very best-

Gotta love someone with such a finely honed sense of humor!!!! Wishing you the best. We look forward to the good news from Heidi that you have been successfully eviscerated and put back together in a new, grand way.

David, Here's wishing you the very best. I know you will do well. We will all be waiting anxiously to hear how things are going.

I'm training for hospital food

but Friday is my last day (working, not living)

My parents took DH and I out to supper, the night before, and my mother was shocked when I said something about my last supper ...:)
