I just looked at that website with the excel spreadsheet and it has lots of great info in it. Thanks for sharing. I sent it to my mom because she had really high bp and takes drugs for it and maybe it will help motivate her to do something about her condition (so far not so much which is very frustrating for her kids who want her to be healthy).

ack--sorry I hit post before finishing my post---i meant to add that it's good to hear your bp has come back down and that in October I went to the ER because my heart was racing for a while (turned out the flu shot i got earlier that day spiked my heart rate b/c it caused a fever) and i had to wait about an hour before I got to see a doctor. And the waiting room wasn't even crowded. So perhaps when you go back if they make you wait and you are feeling antsy you can keep checking in at the desk and pointing out that you are a heart patient, that your symptoms are getting worse and that you are scared of stroke/heart damage, etc. to try and motivate them.

Sorry to hear about your experience in emerg Harry -- and I hope that your blood pressure stays stable. No blowing a gasket!

Sometimes our Canadian emergs are like that and we just have to wait and/or be persistantly in their face. Looking after you is their job after all!
Dale, If you tell the nurses on triage that you are a heart patient and experiencing arrhythmia or other heart stress signs and symptoms the crash team should be on your case as soon as you finish speaking. I've never been made to wait when presenting at my local hospital in cardiac distress. The ER here takes heart emergencies very seriously, maybe because I live a 45 minute life-flight away from the nearest trauma hospital or maybe because the staff are trained in triage and heart symptoms are as highly prioritized as airway difficulties.

When you have cardiac problems that are bad enough to make you visit an ER the staff should respond with an ECG, O2, rest and blood enzyme levels. If you are made to wait be vocal and precise so that they understand how serious your problems are. Don't stay seated or you may never get up again.

Take Heart, this was just a rebuttal on the side of the health professionals I've dealt with.
Pamela.

Hey Harry, I'm only just catching up and saw your thread. Sounds like you've really been through the wringer :( but I'm glad your BP and HR are back in "normal" ranges. I hope it stays this way, but if not, that your next trip to the ER is much more fruitful.

Sending best wishes your way...
