TODAY I got jerked around once again by my
cardioloigist's office staff. SO RUDE!!! Anywho they
didn't want to give me my coumadin which I get free
through Bristol Myers but they send it to them (The
Cardio's office) first and they call me. WELL, they
called and said they only had one bottle for me. SO I
called Bristol Myers who assured me that BOTH bottles
were sent. I called back the rude nurse (Nadia) at the
cardio office and asked where my 5 milligram bottle of
coumadin was as they said they sent it WITH THE OTHER
BOTTLE. After 5 minutes on hold......"Oh we found it
Mrs. Irwin....it was sitting back there with no name
on it". I then called Bristol myers back and asked if
in fact that bottle was shipped with MY NAME on it and
they said yes that MY name and the doctors name was
in a package with only MY supply with ONLY our names
on it. SO when I went this morning to pick up my
coumadin I asked why it was that Nadia told me that my
bottle was in the back with no name on it when in fact
that it not true. I then was on the phone with her
(she must be too scared to face me in person as she
didnt come out ..they just called her and handed me
the phone!)asking why it' s such a hassle ALMOST EVERY
SINGLE TIME I need to get my meds. Here is here
response ver batem! " MRS. IRWIN WE DONT USUALLY DO
THIS DISCOUNT PROGRAM AND THE DOCTORS DONT LIKE TO DO
IT EITHER.I HAVE WORKED HERE 17 YEARS AND I KNOW THAT
WE DONT HAVE THE TIME TO DO THIS NOR DO THEY WANT TO.
WE HAVE 19 DOCTORS AND HAVN'T THE TIME TO SORT THROUGH
ALL OF THE MEDICINE SENT TO OUR PATIENTS WHO ARE
INDIGANT" I said "You dont help those who pay cash in
full on thier bill HERE like me ....who NEEDS this
drug to LIVE and CANT get insurance and finally gets a
break on one of the 9 medications I have to pay
for?"YES THATS RIGHT MRS. IRWIN">>>>> OMG!!!!!!! I
then said "I am so sorry for being so ungrateful. Then
I threw the phone down on the desk and stormed to the
door .....slammed that thing wide open all the while
yelling 'THIS IS WHY I CONTINUE TO HAVE HEART ISSUES"
Then into the elevator where I just fell apart. Once I
was home I got on the internet and ordered flowers for
this NADIA! Here is what the card says and these
flowers should be arriving any time today. They are a
beautiful bouquet too.....$57.00 to have the LAST
WORD.....PRICELESS!!!!!!!! The card reads and I
quote:::::::'NADIA, THANK YOU FOR GOING OUT OF YOUR
WAY AND GETTING MY COUMADIN FOR IN YOUR WORDS "an
INDIGANT" I AM SORRY I WAS SO UNAPPRECIATIVE AND HOPE
THESE MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER! I WILL TRY NOT TO BE SO
RUDE THE NEXT TIME IM SO OFFENDED.

I guess pole vaulting is a career choice for me......not sure!

Hayley this reads like something out of a Sitcom however there is nothing laugh about. I never ceased to be amazed by the issues that members in the US with little or no insurance have to deal with.

OMG - what a bi**h Does your doctor buy into this crap? I think this group needs to be unloaded.

I would also let Bristol Myers know because they may be able to come up with another plan. I am sure they would like to know about this type of reaction to their wonderful program for those without insurance. This is just outrageous.

I think this might come under the hate crimes laws.

Love the flower idea. I think the "$57.00 to have the LAST WORD.....PRICELESS!!!!!!!! " should have been on the card.

Smiles and keep your sense of humor. It's the only thing that gets us through.

Wow, sending flowers - I HAVE to remember that.:D

Now try hard to not let this ruin your day/week/month. (I have to work hard myself, at not letting these kind of things get to me. Injustice is really annoying!)

The point this emotionally indigent lady is missing is that apparently someone at the office did feel that this was something they can do - because they are doing it! If she doesn't like it - she can always quit her job.

Hayley, you've worked too hard to feel good - as my Grandfather would have said "Don't let the bastards get you down!".;)

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when the flowers arrived. Hopefully she now feels very ashamed.

It reminds me slightly of many years ago when I took my computer to be mended on a Monday and by Thursday it still wasn't fixed. No one was rude to me, I just wanted my computer back before the weekend. On the Thursday afternoon I bought a nice big bunch of grapes and took it to the computer shop and asked the young man to deliver them to my computer and to tell it that I missed it and hoped it would feel better soon. He snorted and said he couldn't wait to see the engineers' faces and he would take them immediately. He came back laughing and said the operation would take place first thing in the morning and so I could collect it later in the day. Result!

Hayley:

That was very nice of you to send the flower. Let's hope the gesture jolts this nurse and this resolves the brick wall you have to jump to get your Rxes.

Too often we fail to apply the Golden Rule. I wonder how the woman would have felt had she been in your shoes and needed help from pharmaceutical companies in order to get vital medications?

Hayley,
You should let your cardio know how his/her staff is treating his patients. Unforunately I am in the process of changing cardios because of some issues I had over the last week, including 'sorry a&&' responses by his nursing staff. They work for you......

Some day this country will wake up and start treating healthcare as an inalienable right. We're just a few years behind the other industrialized countries. Until then....
Time to unleash that covert band of rebels, the Bubba mafia, etc.

I hope your flowers got the message across, Haley! No one deserves to be treated like they treated you.

I believe that most doctors and nurses enter their professions because they care about people. I believe that the business side of medicine has taken over and often makes individual caring difficult. 19 doctors in one practice proves my point.

The people at the TOP need to know what is going on.

Be sure to advise your CARDIOLOGIST and the people at Bristol Myers. Let them come up with an equitable solution, or at least make them make their position clear.

Hayley, I once was on an arthritis drug and had to fill out the papers, etc. The dr did, too, and he checked the part where they sent it to HIM. Well, heck his office was 100 miles away from my house. When you fill out one of those things, where the part is for the dr to fill in, YOU check that it should come to your house - before you give the form to the dr. Then they don't have to keep track of it. I did that and it worked out so much better. My dr had no problem filling out his section. I hate to know that we patients are sometimes treated lesser than. I love your response to the unkindness, tho. you go, girl.

BTW, if I remember right, WalMart has a long list of GENERIC drugs which they are selling for $4 for a 30 day supply. Again, if I remember correctly, the 5 mg dose of generic Warfarin is on that list. Worth looking into.

Hayley,
Oh My Gosh! I cannot believe how you were treated! I agree with Karlynn's post ... SOMEONE at the office did think the program was worthwhile ... because they ARE doing it. I would find out who that person is and have a meeting with them ... and let them know exactly how their staff is treating the "indigent" patients using this RX program. That is an absolute shame!

I'm going to say what others may have only thought--do you suspect that that office is keeping the extra bottles for their own benefit, either distributing it to other people as they see fit, or selling it to someone? Or maybe the nurse is doing that on her own.

I think you have to discuss this with the doctor in charge. And you have to bring this up with the drug distributor to make sure that all of their drugs are being distributed the right way and not getting into nefarious hands in this particular office.

It may be more than you think. And you will be the only whistle blower because you were paying attention.

When a person acts as defensive as this nurse did, there is usually something else going on than what appears on the face of things.

Thank you ALL for your support and helping feel SO validated! I have my appointment with my Cardiologist tomorrow and will drive some 30 or so miles to their Carson City office to see her since she didn't have anything earlier at the Reno Office. I've had to wait 3 weeks now for the results of my perfusion scan (remember I posted about that a few weeks ago)and holter monitor (although my Psyciatrist got a copy of the results for me 2 weeks ago so I wouldn't worry so much...now that's a great man!) and tomorrow is the big day. I think the best way is just to hand her the same post that you read as I dont want to tell her...I want her to READ all about it!!! It may help vs. me just nagging about her staff. I always seem to hear better when I read something. Hopefully this will work. I have plenty of bail money just in case things dont go my way and I get arrested:D KIDDING KIDDING KIDDING!!! Ok well I hope you found all your easter eggs and are having a wonderful day! You guys are the best of the best and I am so blessed to have your support!!!! I mean that so much! Thanks again.:)
p.s. YES Nancy that is EXACTLY what I was thinking too!

If you are happy with the way our disabled veterans were treated at Walter Reed Hospital, you will likely be thrilled once the government takes over all healthcare.
