The article topic seemed confusing, ao I read it to see
"Cairns underwent emergency heart surgery earlier this month after suffering an aortic dissection"

So not strictly heart surgery

They see the word 'aortic,' so they conclude that it has to be part of the heart.

They've heard the word aorta, so the word 'aortic' HAS to mean heart, doesn't it?

Ignorance and the failure to fact check are all around us.

I thought from the British press he had suffered a Type A dissection up into the Arch. In this case they would have had to put him into deep hypothermic circulatory arrest to repair sadly paralysis is one of the severe complications especially in an emergency situation like his. Watched him play at Lords in 2004 test match lovely all rounder hope he can recover.
