Hi all

anyone have experience with face shaving? my surgeon, cardiologist and GP have all said that i should avoid using a proper razor-blade razor due to wafarin. .

Currently using an electric one. However, i miss the days of having a proper 100% clean shave and not having bits left behind (this could be due to fact it's not an expensive shaver either, just a cheap one)

Has / does anyone use blade razors? when i used use to use them, i cut myself and that i'm afraid of i don't wanna have to stand there for ages trying to get it t stop or is there a decent electric shaver out there that does a good job?

I am rapidly forming the view that your medical professionals are inept morons

There is no problem with shaving (unless you are as inept at it as your medicos at their job)

Google, the secret searching tool that no one seems to know about ;-)

So shave away (I did, but I've gone for the beard lately for different reasons)

PS: I always had problems with aspirin and nicks when I was younger, but then that was when I'd taken 2000mg of aspirin after drinking weekend and had a hangover ... may have influenced my shaving accuracy too ;-)

Ditto what Pel said ... morons
a shaving cut bleeds the same I reckon without warfarin

and Im a tight wad so I tend to change razors when the ripping gets too much

Just tell people you were in a knife fight and they should see the other guy....

seriously its not an issue at all
and I always blade shave for the very reason you mention , never liked electrics

That's an idea haha!

Deffs miss the "clean shave feeling. looks like im moving back to blades

The ignorance towards a well controlled INR amazes me from the medical community

Poyda , shave with a blade, live your life without fear, the Warfarin therapy is absolutely nothing to be concerned about

Educate yourself & self manage your future INR.

Best wishes

Well he's from Australia so he must be "thin-skinned" :)

I find it's more difficult to shave when on warfarin only if you cut yourself. Used to be I'd put some pressure and a bit of TP on it and was good to go. Now I need to sit down and apply pressure for about 5 minutes unless it's really tiny. This can be a PITA if you are on a tight schedule. As a result I switched to a better razor that comes from Dollar Shave Club. The Club automatically ships me a set of fresh blades at a predetermined schedule so I always have a good razor for the morning shave.

who was it that asked who to stop "criticizing" the USA's health care (you know, stating facts and comparing it to reasonable developed world situations) oh thick skinned one?

:-D

Always used a blade, except for first month during recovery. Electrics suck. So does fear given out by docs on ACT. I think common experiences as conveyed by docs are a few sigmas away from actual.

Sorry if I insulted those from Australia, it was meant only as a joke, hence the ":)"

Shows how ignorant I am, I didn't know :-D...too many new things to learn and no place to put 'em :)

Has nobody heard of a styptic pencil?

Seriously. I’ve been blade shaving for 28 years while on Warfarin. No issues. I find electrics far more irritating to my skin.

I have have reminded my Coumadin Clinic that they only have a couple years experience with this stuff. I have a lot more.

Sure I use a styptic pencil. It was effective pre-INR=2.5 but remarkably ineffective with an INR between 2-2.5. I find that I need to sit down, take a load off and apply pressure.

I too read all the bologna about shaving only with an electric razor while on warfarin. One visit to my cardiologist and I asked him why no razor blades. I was a bit sarcastic telling him I found if difficult to believe I would bleed to death from a razor knick and he said the bleeding wasn't the issue. The worry was more for a blood infection caused by the cut.
This does make sense but still if you wash your face before you shave and keep your blades clean it seems to me there should be no problem. I cannot stand electric razors. I only ever owned one that didn't irritate me all to hell ( a Braun). So I use good quality blades and a good shave cream and just go slow.

When I did my degree (microbiology biochemistry) the only slack arses in the class were the medical folks. "Why do I need to learn about bacteria"

Seems clear he also didn't
