There is a basic misunderstanding about warfarin. It has little effect on external clot formation after nicks or cuts as that is much more dependent on platelets. The Ivy bleeding time test, wherein a small cut is made and the time to form the platelet plug (bleeding stops) is measured, is only modestly affected by warfarin. Aspirin and other drugs that inhibit platelet aggregation have a much more pronounced effect on bleeding time.
