My original post (actually was above the above post) was marked as spam (crap software and ...).
I hadn't known of this issue before and after Noct mentioned it I did a quick google while making coffee. I found that the issue is a darling of the anti-animal-testing crowd who prefer to cite only parts of the research that suit their agenda.
As is all to often the case one has to actually read and check veracity of the results in Google, as indeed the first links it threw up were tripe about how my guinea pig might die if the vet gives it antibiotics as well as the stuff of echo chamber validation.
The issue has been put to bed as far as science is concerned over 50 years ago now...
