Umm...you didn't want to make him uncomfortable in front of the doctor...so instead, you posted it to the global internet..? The World-Wide Web..?

This is why men don't live as long as women.

Fortunately, Viagra use is so old hat and commonplace that I don't think anyone really cares.

Unfortunately, the only person who can gauge the safety of Viagra for him at this point would be his general practitioner or his cardiologist (or better, a combination thereof). Most people who have valve surgery experience a great lessening of symptoms and heart issues that were related to the damaged valve, which comes as a boost to general health. So it's likely he'll be able to go back to using it, or he might even find that he doesn't need it as often.

If they cracked his rib cage (sternotomy) to do valve surgery, he'll likely not be in typical missionary position for another month. But the equipment itself is traditionally unaffected by the surgery.

You can try Al Lodwick's warfarin site to see if there are caveats for Viagra when on warfarin, but I'm sure we'd all have heard about it by now if there were. It would definitely have been a bone of contention.

Best wishes,

If I'm not mistaken, the Viagra lowers blood pressure. I have no idea if Warfarin is counterindicated with Viagra, but I''m wondering if he is on a beta blocker or anything else that might lower blood pressure. I would read the insert that comes with Viagra or google it to see if any of his drugs are mentioned. And, I'd recommend waiting on taking any Viagra. I'd leave a message with his Dr's office with that question and the meds he's taking and hopefully hear back within a day regarding any potential problems.

Dina.....behave! :)

Like Jeff said, I believe the Viagra is okay with warfarin, but taking BP meds may be an issue to check out.
Doesn't the Viagra send the blood to a certain area of the body......ask Norma, she takes if for pulmonary reasons (?)

Revatio is Viagra. From what I understand the other use came about while testing for hyper tension. I was told by my PH specialist that the normal guy gets 1 dose of 25-50mg for the plumbing issue. My PH is high enough that I get 20mg of Revatio 3X a day. I'm on coumadin also. I'm sure they would tell me if there was an issue. Hope that insight is helpful.

Wow ! it is sure enlightening this Viagra thing !! the thing is do I do it or don't I do it ??? I think about it a lot but my Pop up just does not Pop up like it used to ......"Smile and the world smiles with you"

Hi Shortbed,

Yes, I started taking Revatio which is viagra to treat my Pulmonary Hypertension. Four weeks ago when I went in for my Echo, my HP was at 88, extremely high & quite alarming according to my cardio.

Like Geckley, I take 20 mg 3x a day & I have been on coumadin for the past 33 years & I also take a beta blocker plus other meds so I think my cardio would know if there was going to be a conflict.

And please don't feel bad for posting your concerns here ---- that's what we're here for; to help ease each others fears & anxieties, so please don't feel guilty about posting this! I'm sure your husband will understand that you have his best interest at heart! :)
