Hi,
I can say I partook in my younger days. And if I had partaken in recent times, can say I don't believe there was any change in my heart! I am not a regular user,( once in 20 years) I am one of the few that believes it should be legalized! In my opinion it ( for most people) does far less damage than booze.I recognize that some people are easily addicted and that pot leads to "harder" drugs, but those same people will find something to become addicted to.
I am a cigarette smoker and have been for 30 + years, however I smoked ALOT of pot when I was young, but I never tried anything else.
I think it depends on the person and is a personal choice.

Another voice of reason!!! I did not want to get in to the booze debate but I agree with you 100%! The drug, alcohol has caused many more problems and ruined many more lives that pot ever has or will.

Well Cooker,
If you're looking for information, you could try doing a search to see what the medical literature reports.
I did, and this is a short paragraph from a study published in the American Academy of Family Physicians.

The adverse effects of marijuana are of particular concern in older patients and in those with coronary artery disease, hypertension and cerebrovascular disease. For example, marijuana can increase heart rate (a dose-dependent tachycardia), increases cardiac output by as much as 30 percent, alters blood pressure, increases myocardial demand, decreases myocardial oxygen and increases angina.4,7,12,18

Here's the link so you can read it for yourself.

Cooker, if this is your idea of the voice of reason, I would spend more time listening to medical professions. Go to a lung specialist and ask them about the damage. The argument that something is okay because it does less damage than something else is dangerous.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

Lets hope this website doesn't become a snake oil site!

RBC,

There is no rhyme or reason to this thread. Just a friendly exchange of thoughts and information. By the way, what's with the  face?
Is this upsetting you? If so I apologize.;)

You bet, pal!
This website is for people who care about their health. When someone
makes a statement that is at best ignorant (I'm being kind) about the health effect of a drug and then another person characterizes that is being the "voice of reason", you can take it to the bank that will get me upset.

Read the rules, we are supposed to HELP people. Those comments can hurt people's health. People with heart disease should take extra care of their bodies. People with AF have to take extra care of health. People on drugs to help them with rhythm problems shouldn't even be thinking about using pot. If that still isn?t clear to you by this point, please tell the cardiologist who is treating you for AF about your pot plans- what ever they may be. If he doesn?t give you a harsh lecture, then he is not worth what you are paying him.

As for the 30 years cig. smoker, I?m with Biker, do your own thing. Just don?t spread that information here.

Hi,

Just thought I would get the opinion of the VR.com community on the pros and cons of pot smoking. I wanted to post this last week but it kept slipping my mind. :D

Hey Pal (RBC),

Read the post.....I asked for opinions, and I appriciate all of them including yours. I am glad you consider us pals, I was afraid you didn't like me.

Your Pal,
Cooker

Hey RCB,
your opinion is just that "your" opinion. I do not appreciate your attack and being called ignorant!! You do not know me, you are already upset when you read my opinion, and decided to attack. Thats uncalled for!!
I am an intelligent, educated, well spoken adult. If you want to talk to me, otherwise, don't say anything about me, at least until you know me.l

While I agree the purpose of this site is to promote good health, people often post questions about how to balance their not-perfect life with the desire to do what is best for their hearts. I drink more than is medically recommended and have asked for people's opinions /advise on this forum. Others have discussed their plans to participate in marathons and other extreme activities against medical recommendations. I also remember a discussion where someone wanted to get a tatoo and was concerned because her Dr. frowned upon it. All of these posts have been responded to with information about the medical ramifications of the act but not a judgemental attitude towards the person asking the question.

How many of us are likely to have the courage to ask our doctor about the medical effects of illegal activity? Because of that, I think it is especially important that people be made to feel that this is a safe environment for those questions - whether it is about smoking pot or main-lining heroine. Kate

Those Three-Letter Words

Those Three-Letter Words

Ah it's those three letter words that set these threads ablaze...

Personally, I prefer the latter. Hmmmm, wonder if I can hijack this and turn it into a sex thread? :D :D :D

Kate,

Thanks for your post. I am what you would call thick skinned and very little bothers me. I agree with you 100%. By the way I have talked about pot use with my PCP, I don't keep anything from my doctors. The way I see it is I pay them to do the best for me regaurdless of my hard headedness;)

Hope all is well with you.

Tom
