Just saw the surgeon this morning. I'm going to have an AVR and ascending aortic conduit next Wednesday.
I'm going with the On-X.
I know this has been discussed before, but what's the best machine to home test INR? Now is probably the time to invest in one.
I must be going bananas, because I'm not even that anxious. A part of me is happy the waiting game is almost over. I was actually sick of it.
Anyways, I want to thank you all for making it easier for me.
I'll just go back to lying in bed like a stunned gazelle.

Hi

given your location in Australia I'd say the Roche Coaguchek XS ... I'm not even sure if the INRatio products are available here anymore

I get my stuff from here
https://www.medshop.com.au/search/coaguchek/0/10/1
a quick ebay round shows that people are now more inclined to buy them used on eBay over in the USA and prices are now double what they were. So its now cheaper to buy the unit from that shop too

best wishes for Wednesday mate ... I'll give ya a call later

PS: expect to blow a few strips when testing at first and I fully recommend watching my video again. Watch it pretending to do each step so as you don't just glaze over and ignore details.

All the very best for Wednesday Aglan ! I too felt less anxious in the last couple of weeks before surgery - in fact I felt excited about it - so I don't think you're going bananas !

Hi just curious is your ascending aorta still at 4.1cm for replacement or has it increased in size? Best wishes :)

Warrick, my ascending aorta is actually 3.8-3.9 now. I think the aneurysm is shrinking on Losartan 50mg twice daily. However, and this will sound odd, I don't want to have to keep monitoring it. So, I'm getting it replaced. The surgeon wasn't that keen.

I know you're anxious about it. I've had good results with Losartan and there is evidence it works. I just don't want to think about it anymore.

I've had some adventures with an unecessary stent, 'trivial heart attack' etc. I simply don't trust these clowns.

Ha, ha, ha - I've had to see my cardiologist more frequently since surgery than I ever did before ! But I sincerely do hope you have your wish Aglan, there's no reason why not :)

Again - It looks like you'll soon be taking that major next step. We're all here, cheering you onward and waiting for your every update.

How do you folks get your appointments so quickly? Or did you know and just not say anything?

I'm trying to get to see a specialist about having a bad pacemaker lead removed and replaced, and I can't even get into his consultation schedule until July 19.

Have you tried the circus?
Steve, I will try to update, but I might be distracted. I don't know what I feel today. I guess it's going to be an emotional roller-coaster from here on in.

Pel, the picture of the goat you uploaded was horizontal on my iPhone, but vertical on the PC. You guys must have thought I was smoking crack last night. Anyway, thanks for the therapy session.

mate, just make sure you don't get the smoking crack and sniffing glue round the wrong way ... ok?

Wow, only a week to go?! My surgeon scheduled me for something like month after the consult. He had a series of other tests he wanted me to get in prior to surgery. Some blood tests, CT scans and X-rays. Those all required scheduling and even though they were quick about them i dont think a week woulda been enough time to get them all in.
