Hello everyone

This spring on March 16, 2014, a group of heart patient runners and friends will meet in Cincinnati once again for the annual Mercy Health Heart Mini, co-sponsored by the American Heart Association.

Distance options are 5K, 15K and half marathon. This event has become an informal tradition for some of us. We meet at a restaurant for dinner on Saturday, run on Sunday morning, then convene at the Cincinnati McCormick and Schmick’s restaurant at the finish line, which hosts a very nice complimentary VIP brunch (VIP = heart patient, a designation you specify when you register). The race additionally honors and recognizes heart patients with a special “Red Cap” division. It’s a well-run event and great course in any case, but also a worthy fundraiser and social event. Check out the video below (with comments from our own Red Capper “tprice54” at 0:34).

We will be establishing a team and providing additional details as we get closer to March, but for now I wanted any of you who are potentially interested to think about joining us. You can follow our discussions and planning at the HEART forum:

I’d also like to extend an invitation to join HEART, a no-cost community of heart patients with diverse conditions who share a passion for active lifestyles. Several of our members also belong to valvereplacement.org.

We hope you will consider joining us on the weekend of March 15/16, 2014, and/or joining HEART.

Hi Bill,
Good to hear from you; hope you're well.
Appreciate the invitation, but I'm already commited to the Sarasota Half Marathon that weekend.

Hi Bill...

I am up in Columbus and would love to participate. I've done a 1/2 marathon since my surgery but only do 3 - 5 mile runs these days. I had a 2 year battle with plantare faseitis so long distance runs are off the table. It's the long training runs that triggered it when training for my 2nd half.

I LOVE this event!!! MARCH 16, 2014

I'll fly from Virginia for the cause, I'd love all of the information I could get.

Thanks in advance, I'll put in for some vacation at work. (Is it a week long event? I literally know nothing about it)

Edit: Requested information before I noticed the link, with all of the information.

woops :O

So glad that you'll be able to join us!!!

Just an update - the Heart Mini event this past weekend was a BLAST!!!!

We had about 15 red-cap heart runners on team Heart - about 19 runners total (spouses) and probably 30 people total who joined us for dinner and socializing throughout the weekend in Cincinnati!!!

What a great time to meet new people and re-connect with others!!!

Our next meet-up will be in Grand Rapids Michigan this October
