I am 56 years old and in December 08 I received a mechanical valve Sorin Carbomedics plus a bypass. Due to the irradiation for Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 20, the aortic valve was severely stenosed and the operation was quite urgent. The mitral valve is not stenosed, with normal movement, with mild regurgitation, calcifications in the ring, the team of doctors decided that it should be left alone. I was quite scared because a first team of surgeons refused to operate on the classic because of the risks and they recommended TAVI to me. Fortunately, the second team successfully performed the classic surgery.

Welcome Bluetux. Glad to see another European on the forum. If I understand your post you recently had your mechanical aortic valve implanted. You will find a lot of useful tips for living successfully with your valve on this forum.
