My beloved hubby of 20yrs is having AVR very soon. We see the surgeon Thursday. I am so nervous because he has moderate to severe COPD. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of surgery in ppl with such an issue. Is there anything I can do Post surgery to help him through all of this? I feel so helpless.

Hi Prairee-Dawn and welcome to our little home away from home! This stuff can be and is very frightening but you will see that the odds are very much in your husbands favor.

I did/do not have COPD but I was a smoker and had diminished lung capacity. It was addressed by the surgeon and anesthesiologist, how I'm not sure but it was.

I'm sure that others will come along with more questions and information. Just remember that we are not doctors and any suggestion should be weighed in that light. This is the best place you could be at this time.

Again, welcome:smile2:
