Anne; so good to hear you are not facing an imminent re-op! And your attitude is great. I have always had low BP and Metoprolol is standard after AVR
but even so they debated whether to give it to me. Every new nurse freaked out because my systolic was between 85 and 100.
They ended up dividing my 25 mg tabs into 4 tiny doses. After a few days everyone relaxed. They sent me home on 12.5 mg once a day.
The reason is exactly as you stated, to relieve the work of the heart. Even with my low BP, I have had no problems. It is important to stay hydrated -
but not overly so. Good luck and be well. Bonbet
