Had surgery 6 months ago and I still get a dull ache between my shoulder blades when exercise walking. In fact as I get tired, my fatigue is located there somehow. Sound familiar?

Yes, it does

it sounds like you're still unconsciously holding yourself "stiff" to "protect" your sternum after the injury.

See a good sports massage therapist or a good chiropracter (NB not one who tells you they can cure stuff or acts like a crank / bone cracker / homeopathic fruit)

best wishes

Yep! Oh how I remember those days.
When walking try to push your neck/head & shoulders back and stretch downward, hold for 10 sec, relax and repeat during your walk. A good massage will do wonders!
