my useless insurance policy is about to expire...(that's the policy that denied
my avr claim because they don't cover cosmetic surgery, among other
random reasons)...so today have applied for a new policy.

this is a policy specifically designed for ex-pats in thighland, your basic
major medical with some expanded hospital benefits. not worried about
some cover you'd need (especially stateside) due to the low cost of
medical care here.

the forms were pretty short and simple, they did ask about heart problems
and use of anti-coagulants. (does aspirin count?) should have a reply in
a few days, with me luck.

Good luck. You know what the results would be if you were stateside. Hopefully, that won't hold true there.

i doubt they'll deny me coverage, given the number of old, decrepit retirees
here. and this is a plan specifically developed for us ex-pats.

most likely they'll either give me a higher rate (middle rate coverage is
$400/year), or add a no-valve-related expenses clause.

oh, yeah, for you retirees; thighland has a cool retirement visa deal, you
can live very well on social (in)security benefits, the weather is great, and
health care is decent quality and affordable.

You might run into a buddy of mine there. He married a Thigh girl and they often travel back when Pat isn't working in Iraq.

I'll have to find out where he goes when he's in Thailand. Right now, he's an armed civilian? Networking Contractor based in Kuwait, but works inside Iraq.

Here's a pic with him and Sadams Head Statue.

well, it's official, i'm UNINSURABLE!!!

"Thank you for the application submitted. Our underwriters have assessed the
medical record and we reluctantly inform you that we are unable to provide health
insurance coverage. This is because there are multiple health conditions which alone
are insurable however in combination, the conditions presents a health profile to
which we are unable to accurately underwrite."

apparently this is based on valve replacement (all fixed), high cholesterol
(in range with meds), and....ummmm....nothing else.

sure hope nobody goes and institutes some kind of single-payer, public health deal
while i'm not lookin'! i sure as hell wanna stay with the benefits of corporate health
insurance. look at all the money i can save by not having to pay premiums!!!

come to Japan! They'll insure anyone regardless of pre-existing conditions. It ain't cheap though.

The world is turning to crap. The minute you have anything "Heart" related on your medical files, Insurance Co's turn and run the other way. No never mind that your probably healthier then ever, you have heart problems.

So come back to Texas and get insurance through the high risk pool.

well those little isaan sweeties are probably only as tall as your thighs!

mate, yellow fever took hold of me many years ago, so i am not at all anti; but it is fair to say they dig your money most all all. thigh culture is sooo diferent and there is much advice available to the effect you should totally avoid all full and part timers and northern chicks....

as you may recall, "her indoors" is a young chinese and wants to know why you left china and what happened to the chinese chick who christened "the meat one"

oh, and sorry to hear about the insurance refusal. why not try your luck with some thai insurers?

"her indoors" (actually it is "err" indoors) is a cockney slang reference to one's wife, sort of in the context of a wife who exercises a strong influence over the husbands actions outside even while she is tied to the kitchen sink. in other words she is a "right old dragon" but still very nice!

i first learned this one watching the famous english tv show ""minder"

In the states they have a blue cross product that must accept people with any health malady. It's not bad.

but i DON'T HAVE a health malady. i done been fixed!

i've been playing email with the declining insurer, i just want them to
give me an honest reason. the lastest being combination of factors.
i asked for a detailed list of the factors and how they combine to make
me uninsurable. they responded there were multiple risk factors.
third time they said risk factors, along with my "habits and lifestyle."

damn, they got me. don't drink, don't smoke, don't take drugs, not
overweight, plenty of exercise, cycling daily, marathon training.
all bad habits. aaah, now i understand. we only insure unhealthy
people, which allows us to deny everything as being pre-existing.

i've found a couple other possibles, but am contacting their underwriters
before applying. you'd think they'd offer a "no heart-related issues"
rider or something, rather than simply turning me down.

i s'pose i could renew my current insurance, due in three weeks.
or just go without. nothing i can get will cover anything other than
major accident (maybe....). might as well save the premiums, with
the cost of medical care here, there's nothing i can't afford that won't
kill me.

now if only obama would get off his nobel-prize-winning-butt and
fix health care.......
