The October 2008 issue of peer-reviewed medical journal Managed Care will feature a white paper entitled, Oral Anticoagulation Patient Self-Testing: Consensus Guidelines for Practical Implementation.
The paper offers compelling evidence supporting patient self-testing (PST) within the context of a comprehensive anticoagulation management plan. The guidelines also provide healthcare professionals a practical, seamless process of implementation of PST.

This is a very interesting document. I believe that the target population would be doctors and health care practitioners. After a a quick read, I didn't find information on patients who choose to own their machines or those who self-dose. The supplement is sponsored by Inverness Medical, which is a prominent and well respected company in the area of point of care testing.

I really don't like to put much of my personal information on the net. The order form for this document requires information that I would rather not share on this wonderful world-wide web.

I googled the title, "Oral Anticoagulation Patient Self-Testing:Consensus Guilelines For Practical Implementation" and I was able to print the 8 page document.

This is an interesting read. I will be reading it more carefully soon.

Kind regards,

Blanche

Thanks Ross - a very interesting document. The thing I like about my surgeon is he totally trusts me to adjust my dose according to guidelines he has given me - whereas this document seems to stress the need to ring in your results each week. But great to see the recommendation for home testing and that studies have shown how much benefit there is from it. Great to see the message is getting around :D

Is there such a thing as too many.......

Is there such a thing as too many.......

The task of organizing and dealing with information, in this information society, is a task that I have no idea how to handle.

Sure would like some advice from those folks who know how to catagorize and record these kinds of things.

Until that is forth coming, I will keep my little...or not so little...favorites at my hand. I suppose that that means we have to be our own IR folks....

The reference forum is the 2nd most ignored forum on this site. VR Merchandise is the 1st. If enough interest is generated, then I'll make it a sticky.

Please send a copy to Freddie's PCP ASAP!

Good reference material, anyone could take it to their physician to bolster their case. Ross, are you making this a "sticky" ??

Thanks for thinking of me in regards of this. I was thinking of printing it off myself, but I'm afraid that since it's from the States my Doc won't even look at it.

What does she think about Europeans, then?? They have been self-testing a lot longer than those on this side of the pond. There are lots of references in there, and she really needs to read this !

Many thanks for the updated link. It is now downloaded and I will give it to my doctor and Coumadin Clinic. They have me on self testing but do not really like it.

The link in your post is very old (2009) and the information probably is quite dated. I imagine the guidelines for self-testing are a lot different now.
