My electrophysiologist has said that I need an ablation near my mechanical mitral valve to treat my persistent a-fib. He is referring me to a specialist in Plano, TX.

Has anyone had this procedure? I've had a cryoablation but not near the valve. Allergic to tykosin. Amiodorone hasn't worked. Also had 4 cardioversions.

Not a fib but Vtach
yes had ablation
not sure if it’s common but it makes sense there might be irrritated areas around a valve that had surgery
but the fact that the doctor seems to know where it is is a good sign If they know where it is a good chance they can ablated it

I have a mechanical mitral valve, and had afib. Had ablations (2x 7 hour procedures) to successfully eliminate the afib. They modeled the heart with ct scans prior to the procedure. Last ablation was done in 2012 and so far still afib free.

I just had an ablation. It took about an hour. The doctor ablated two areas that were responsible for SVTs and another arrhythmia, The technology was amazing - I was hooked up to 50 (no kidding) cables. The display used by the doctor looked like it was a super high resolution 45 inch monitor, and I'm sure displayed a lot of information in multiple windows. Placement of the instruments was assisted by an x-ray above my chest.
He did what was called an EP Study to determine exactly where the nodes in my heart were misfiring and used radio frequency to ablate those areas.

Perhaps they've significantly improved the way that ablations are done. There was one area of the heart that he couldn't do -below my aortic valve. He said that if the device went through the valve, he couldn't pull it back out, and I would die on the table. I may still have an arrhythmia, but a relatively benign one.
