Today is the 49th anniversary of my Aortic artificial valve. By coincidence, I also had my annual checkup with my Cardio today......and I'm good to go for another year. I have now lived long enough to begin having old age health issues. Altho the valve is doing great I have developed A-fib, probably chronic. While it is not fatal it can raise a stroke risk due to an erratic heart beat. Many seniors, with or without heart issues develop A-fib as they approach 80. The treatment for the disorder is blood pressure/heart rate control and an blood anti-coagulant. Since I am currently taking meds for both BP and ACT no new meds are necessary......and, more importantly, no life style changes are needed.
I am looking forward to next year when the valve turns 50. Hence my title of this thread........and 50 years is what my surgeon said it would last. Today, my Cardio said there "ain't no telling" how long it will last
