How has it been since your Valve replacement?

Just trying to gauge general health of this group’s members and longevity of your valves - tissue or Mechanical - and share my own story. Hopefully it will ease the anxiety of those who are waiting to get their valve replaced. I got my Carpentier tissue valve in July 2011. It’s been 9+ years for...

Has anybody from this forum run in marathons after valve replacement ? I have never run a marathon of any sorts before. Anyone see NY Med Premier

The first show of the NY Med (reality show hosted by Dr. Dr.Oz, cardiac surgeon at NY Presbyterian and famous TV personality) was on ABC last Monday. One of the episodes was of a mitral valve repair. Disappointed they didn't really show a whole lot but just a passing shot of the mitral valve...

    Alleviating incision discomfort after surgery

A couple of weeks ago I posted a note saying that even though my incision was healing, I had general discomfort that was preventing me from having a straight posture as I always had to be careful that my undershirts did not chafe on the incision spot. Eventually I found that if used surgical...

Getting the goop off the incision

I still have some goop (kryptonite ??) in my sternum incision that continues to annoy me when I wear a undershirt. My surgeon suggested that I could rub vaseline on it and remove it with a washcloth. Not working too well for me. Does anyone have any better ideas ? How long does it take for the...

I am hearing several opinions on this topic. I am 4 weeks post-op. Although my surgeon said I could drive after 3 weeks post-op, I am hesitant to get behind the wheel until I hear from others on this forum. Any recommendations re. when it would be absolutely safe to drive ? Thanks folks.

I am about 2 weeks post AVR. For a couple of days I have been seeing some bright images in front of my eyes. This happens when I accidentally glance at a bright light source even momentarily. I see an image with a blinking red light. When I keep my eyes shut for a minute, it disappears. It used...

Dear Friends, By God's grace, my Surgeon's skills and this community's encouragement, my AVR went without a hitch on the morning of July 6th. Success Rate of AVR OHS

As my AVR OHS date gets closer, I have all kinds of questions swirling in my mind. One of them being, "Am I rushing into this and should I have waited". Can anyone share any numbers on what the success rate (or rather the morbidity rate) of AVR OHS procedures ? Even better, does anyone know of...
