    Questioning the Clinic

Try and remember as you recover and become able to tolerate more exercise that the warfarin in your system will decrease because warfarin is metabolized in your liver. Increased exercise causes a greater volume of blood to flow through the liver thereby reducing the amount of anticoagulant in...

Coumadin, Vitamin K, puffy dark circles under eyes

Eat healthy, dose the diet including Vit K because it's required for healthy bones and probably other reasons too. E.g. Should the INR test be 4.0 instead of 3.5 how much Vit. K containing food would it take to correct the test result. Probably more than any of us could eat in a day.

CoaguChek xs vrs the lab... someone is wrong!

Hard to be sure. prior to the TIA's I never said when referring to directions to say north while my brain is telling me south--I'm compelled to say the wrong direction and then correct it. It's the same with left and right. That's all I'm aware of.

    Herbal teas and fluctuating INR

Thanks to all of you, there's very good advice posted above. It's not often my levels cause concern, I just wondered about the herbal teas because I normally don't drink them. Coffee becomes monotonous after awhile and this dull, gloomy weather we're experiencing hasn't helped either...

    Herbal teas and fluctuating INR

It is rare for my weekly INR readings to fluctuate this much. Two weeks ago 2.7; last week 3.1; this a.m. 2.6. Same warfarin dose. Nine cups a week is just over one a day. Anything's possible though. Out of interest though, what quantity of juice and veggies are you referring to? Are they...

    Herbal teas and fluctuating INR

Whereas I don't believe diet affects warfarin; lately while drinking herbal teas, maybe 9 cups a week, my INR, although always in range, is fluctuating up and down. So I wonder if the teas are the cause. Any ideas?

    Herbal teas and INR

whereas I don't believe diet impacts INR something is amiss in my readings. The only change in my diet is non-caffeinated herbal and green tea. Maybe 6 cups a week. INR always in range just lower and then higher on the same long-time dose. It's a puzzlement alright.

the futility (and pointlessness) of worrying about diet WRT INR

Well I certainly know how to post and be misunderstood. I don't believe food consumed affects INR, actually I barely think about it. Because I like dried ginger somewhere I read ginger would affect INR, just thought it was interesting and amusing and continued eating it when I felt like it...

the futility (and pointlessness) of worrying about diet WRT INR

Ha ha, let's put it another way. Suppose the correct INR range is 2.5 to 3.5. Blood tested at 5.0. So how much high Vitamin K containing food would it take to return INR where it should be. Me thinks it would take days and more food than one would care to eat. That's how I feel when hearing...

the futility (and pointlessness) of worrying about diet WRT INR

Sorry to burst your bubble; however, ginger can affect INR. Like yourself I know a balanced diet is the way to go and don't believe diet has that much influence on my INR. Can't remember whether the ginger influence increases or decreases the test result.

    Mechanical Mitral Valvers?

Mom2 That's interesting, the range of 3-3.5. Do you home test?

CoaguChek xs vrs the lab... someone is wrong!

I bear responsibility for that too because I didn't make myself heard. Not so any more. I think keeping your INR above 2.5 is probably a good idea.

Ha ha. The minute spent with XS so much better than travelling to the lab and waiting, waiting for the test result.. Right on.

CoaguChek xs vrs the lab... someone is wrong!

Agian, Yikes indeed. PCP's office thought the correct range for me was 2-3 probably because I was the first patient with a mechanical mitral valve. When lab results were usually lower and I was being told they were fine I accepted it. After the third TIA I insisted I should be 2.5 to 3.5. I...
