    Other conditions associated with BAV

I was born with club feet. I was also born with flat feet. I had surgery on a carotid artery in my neck about three years ago. I have diabetes. I believe those are associated with BAV. Do any of you have these conditions are others?

    Any TAVR patients here?

Curious what your TAVR experience has been like, how you are getting along and how long has your surgeon estimated your TAVR valve might last. Thanks for your response!

20 months out and might have developed a problem......

I am now 20 months out from my aortic valve replacement surgery at Cleveland. My routine appointment revealed I have a "minor" leak on my bovine replacement valve. Should I panic now or later? He scheduled another echo in six months and suggests I send a CD of my echo to Dr. gillinov who...

13 months post op and now problems

I had my aortic valve replaced at Cleveland Clinic on 6/5/2013. I've recovered from that with a few glitches. It looks like at this point I will be told on Friday that I need to have surgery on a carotid artery for about 60% blockage due to plaque buildup. I don't know how many more if these...

    Sternum sore after cutting wood

I went out and cut wood with the chainsaws with wifey last Saturday and Sunday. Some pretty heavy logs. Today we finished stacking all the wood. Some big pieces weighed close to 150 lbs. tonight my sternum is sore when I reach my arm across to the opposite side. Ex. With left arm reaching...

    Condition found during cancer checkup

Got back on Friday from my cancer checkup at Mayo. In one of my CT scans they found pulmonary Atelectasis. It sounds like this has probably been present since my AVR on 6/5/2013. Have any of you ever contracted this?

Update from 6/5/2013 AVR & aorta repair

After going down a rocky road initially, I couldn't be feeling any better. I have started lifting some light weights and hope to build on that and progressively add more weight up to a point. Still working to heal my rotator cuff, but that will take time. Also, convinced my cardiologist to...

    Is this typical or unusual?

Once in a while I will have a (1 or 2) sharp pains over my heart/pectoral muscle. Can't decide if it is musculoskeletal or heart-related in nature. It is enough though that it catches my attention though. Have had about 4 of these today. I had an AVR on 6/5/13 and have felt great lately...

Is it possible to get off Metoprolol?

Lately I have suffered from terrible bloatiness and gas due to Metoprolol. It has been so bad it woke me up in the middle of the night when I was belching in my sleep. I am on 50 mg twice daily. I haven't had any Afibs in about two weeks. I hope I am not condemned to take this stuff for the...

Impressions of sweets subsequent to AVR

I've noticed that anything sweet has appeared so sweet to me now that I can't hardly eat it anymore. Any cereals that were slightly sweet prior to my AVR are so sweet now that I can't eat it. I bought some red twizzlers licorice today and it was so sweet I had to quit eating it. Also noticed...

    Crazy post op symptoms

Woke up night before last at 2:00 am to the most excruciating pain in my left scapula/back I have ever experienced. That day I had helped my wife carry up two Rubbermaid totes of books from the basement. Didn't really lift but let them hang with my arm straight down. No apparent problem. No...

How long before returning to work?

Cleveland Clinic told me 12 weeks is what they recommend. Have you heard anything similar/different?

Coughing spell and subsequent chest pain

I'm 6 or 7 weeks out and I am getting over a chest cold. I had a really bad coughing spell in the middle of the night last night. I thought I was going to cough up a lung. Ever since that coughing episode, I have had more chest pain in my sternum and over my heart since then and also hurts...

Some good news and some other

Echo today revealed pericardial effusion is all but gone. The other news is I have dizziness, losing weight still after 5 weeks and my blood pressure is 80/40. No blood pressure meds or diuretics. On antibiotics since yesterday for sinusitis, uri or bronchitis I developed.

    Regression this evening

I feel some chest pain tonight on inhalation. Is this something to be expected that once in a while you have a bad day in the recovery process? I popped a couple Tylenol and hoping for some relief.

Today feels like a new day

I feel the best today that I have felt since before surgery. I almost hate to announce it for fear I will be jinxed or something. I had had a substantially large pericardial effusion surrounding my heart. The cardiologist had put me on Colchicine(Colcrys) last Wednesday and has an echo...

    Pericarditis & Pericardial Effusion

Have any of you ever gotten this following your OH surgery and if so, what was done to treat it and was it successful? I currently have it and have another echocardiogram scheduled for Tuesday to see if the pericardial effusion has been reduced somewhat. I read on the Internet that bedrest is...

    I've got a theory

Yesterday was perhaps my best day since my surgery on 6/5/2013. Huge turnaround following two setbacks that ended in two separate re-admissions. I was Dx'd at my local hospital as having a moderate/severe case of pericarditis with a large pericardial effusion. This is what I'm guessing is...
