I have traveled through Europe, Mexico, Africa and the States and have never been asked for any documents. I leave it in my carry on bag when i go through security but i keep my prescription and receipt with it just in case they ask what it's for.

    While in the waiting room

Unfortunate reality, I was told by my GP it will take 3 months before the surgery. There are others with multiple health issues that are waiting for the same surgery and I just had to be patient, not an easy thing to do. I had SOB and I made sure my cardiologist was aware of this. They...

How soon will work & driving resume after AVR

Hey Doug, fellow Central Albertain. I waited 4 weeks before I was allowed to drive, although a fender bender would have probably put me back in the hospital. It takes a good 6 weeks to heal, I waited 3 months before I went back to work and even then I took it easy. After 6 months I was swinging...

    what companies supply test strips?

I pay the same in Alberta, I have a good plan through work and so does my wife and they will not cover any of it. Eight dollars a strip is the going rate. I am working in Denmark half the year and my INR is stable so I only test once a month as long as I do not miss a dose or mess up on the...

    Attempting to pull myself together

Hey Jo! I was a mess myself. You have already been through so much "you will be fine" fear is a great motivator. We are only 3 hours away, jump in a boat and meet me in the North Sea. The weather is wonderful out here...lol Like you said, stay positive, focus and prepare yourself. Jeff

    I am fuhreeeking out!

You will be fine, It will be hard at first but it gets better. Four months after my surgery I felt good enough to challenge myself and work on a boat in the North Sea and explore my Viking roots. Think of it as just another surgery and go with it, it will save and change your life. The tube will...

    Drain tube holes

Consider it a second belly button. The tube hole typically takes longer to heal, I think it is one of the areas that they could improve on. I,m just grateful that I had no sternum complications, the scar is secondary. There are creams and Botox injections that can help but I have not needed to...

The best time of year for surgery

I had my surgery in February, it was -40 when I left the hospital. Everyone was sick around me and I dodge all of it by staring them down. I was worried silly that I would get sick. Coughing and sneezing are 2 things that will hurt a lot. I was more worried about getting sick in the hospital...

    Acceptable Anti Inflammatories

My doctor gave me DICLOFENAC 10% DIFFUSIMAX compound cream which I can apply 3 times daily. If I did apply it three times daily it may actually have an effect but I only use it on my bum arthritic knee when it gets bad and it is not very effective then. Starving one self to get the weight off to...

    Skill of the Surgeon

Well, I have not had 5 surgeries (wow), but I did lose my mother in 79 from OHS. Being prepare mentally and having the surgery before perminant damage is done to your heart is pinnicle. These surgeons are far and few between, when they reach this level of expertise they are more or less equal...

    "Fear" when swimming/running

I used to be a strong swimmer and find now that I have my good days swimming and bad days. I find my lung capacity varies and struggle some days swimming. I just passed a off shore survival course which required me to flip over in a helicopter simulator and did lots of swimming to prepare...

Checked out today with Low INR

Your doing fine, it gets better over time. I bought a Coag XS machine a year after surgery and I worry very little about being out of range unless I miss a dose which has not happened yet. I test once or twice a month now and go to the lab very couple months to compare results. We fear the worst...

    1st Valversary

I woke up today and I am reflecting back a year ago, how scared I was and how little I showed it due to the support I received. I wish everyone approaching their surgical date all the best and may the gods be kind as they were to me! Remember to "Live Laugh & Love"
