    Cardiac Catharsis...sigh

Well...Stress test lasted mere moments before angina and lack of oxygen shut 'er down. Marathon records remain safely unchallenged however, One good thing was immediate consult hastily arranged with a hematologist to see if perhaps this anemia thing could be addressed. All signed up and...

Aortic Valve damage of red blood cells.

Let me put my glass of ice down (pica party anyone?) and jump aboard as anemia has long been my nemesis. Although no mechanical here as I have a bovine beauty, could it be that calcified "teeth" are chomping down as corpuscles cascade by ?? Anyone else have anemia issues elated to...

    Cardiac Catharsis...sigh

I am seeing my new cardiologist on next Wednesday....theoretically for a stress test but the last one a few weeks ago was cancelled due to BP and EKG. Although edema has been an issue for years, even before surgery, adding to my cardiac carnival, I have recently developed "leaky leg" syndrome...

    Five years ago today

In some ways seems eons ago...so much has happened. I am alive, blessed and thankful but very aware of the expectations I had for physical improvement post surgery have fallen short. Were they unrealistic ?? No marathons in mind , but there were hopes of being able to walking upstairs...

    Blood pressure

I am just past the 1.5 year point since AVR (bovine). Hypertension is my nemesis still and it is nothing even with meds to have BP ranging between 160/108 to 210/140. Required monthly trips to cardiologist and echo's bimonthly keeping an eye on things. Stroke risk undeniable and edema , left leg...

    Near Death Experiences

Facing terminal illness or being told surgery or die, takes a person to a very surreal place. . Understanding how our brain interprets different levels of consciousness and how our body responds to crisis is complex. It is fascinating to hear about other peoples experiences but ultimately, who...

    Cats

First day home post op and I was rebonding with one of our foster kittens who was on the arm of the chair I was sitting in. Unexpectedly, she sneezed (she was getting over upper respiratory infection) and the snot flew and I jerked away. My sternum did NOT appreciate this knee-jerk reaction...

Hard to believe this much time has passed. I will confess I now feel am mixed when it comes to recovery. Ramipril use and its side effects?

I was put on Ramipril after surgery to help with blood pressure. A cough developed very shortly after. Anyone who has had OHS knows coughing is no fun. Heart surgeon said indicative of beta blocker intolerance/allergy (?) so he discontinued it and advised not to take any BB in the future. He...

    Medication discontinued question

In past hospitalizations with cardiac/hypertension & low potassium issues, I was given the liquid with apple juice chaser (gag) and the one lovely nurse gave me powered potassium in peach yogurt. Ever had salty yogurt? Double gag. Took a LONG time to be able to eat yogurt after that. :biggrin2...
