Old member looking around for new info

I guess one drawback of living almost 19 years after replacement with a tissue valve is that you don’t stay current with new advancements in valve replacement - aneurysm repair when a family member undergoes the surgery and is experiencing difficulties. So I will explain the situation and see...

18th valversary for my bovine valve

They said it wouldn’t last, but 18 years later my Edwards Magna Perimount is still working well. I was 52 when Dr. Kouchoukos replaced my stenotic aortic valve. There has been little to no change over the years. I hope everyone who undergoes replacement will have the same good fortune.

17 years with my Edwards bovine

They said it wouldn’t last, but seventeen years after AVR all is good with my Edwards Magna Perimount.

16 years with my bovine valve

I just remembered that today is the 16th anniversary of my aortic valve replacement. I rarely think of it. My bovine valve is still working well, and getting 20 years out of it seems like a real possibility.

    Tobagotwo has died

It is with great sadness that I share the news that Bob Hendricks, Tobagotwo on VR, has died following a five year battle with prostate cancer. He was a good friend and mentor to many facing valve replacement and his contribution to the reference material on this website is invaluable.

    BDMc has passed

Old time valve replacement members will be saddened to learn that Brian McCarter, BDMc, has died unexpectedly from a yet to be determined heart issue. Brian bore his many heart surgeries with grace and acceptance and was always there to support and help. May he Rest In Peace.

To get the thread back on track

I just reread the thread starter, perhaps more accurate to say Forum starter, from December, 2006. At that time I went by the member name, Mary. All information about Mary is forever lost, probably just as well, but the creator of The Order of the Tawdry Shirt is still listed, the one and only...

    Just saying

For what it's worth: I've been on VR a long time, and I have read some incredible stories. The relevant word as it pertains to this thread is INCREDIBLE. We had one who convinced the group that she committed suicide, and others who have run scams for money. They're usually not obvious when they...

    BMDc's surgery on March 9, #5

Brian underwent a heart Cath yesterday and his arteries are clear. Once he is in the OR Thursday and the surgeons see what they're facing, they'll decide whether they will try to repair and patch or if they will remove the present valve and graft and replace completely. Either way it will be a...

5th surgery possible for long time member

BMDc, Brian to friends on VR, has asked that I post that he was rushed to Beth Israel Deaconess due to his heart failing. I am unsure what specific heart surgery looms, but he expects to know more after seeing the surgeon today. This would be number 5. Please keep a good thought or prayer that...

    Keep njean in your prayers

Norma's husband has let friends know that she has suffered a stroke and is unresponsive. Please keep them in your prayers.

How long has your present valve been implanted? Poll

Recognizing that several members have had multiple replacements, I wanted to get an idea of the length of time member's have had with their current valve. This poll will ask you to mark whether your current valve is mechanical or non-mechanical and also mark the length of time since...

Met up with knightfan2691 Saturday, July 6

Not only did we share a meal with Cort on our way home from WI, I sat in the backseat of his beloved car and was treated to a ride around Rochelle, IL!

Which one of your 4 valves has been replaced or will be replaced?

I've seen a few threads and comments lately about which valves forum members have had replaced or will have replaced, so I thought I'd start an informal poll. I've included 4 options, but you can mark more than one if you've had multiple valves replaced. Feel free to include any comments that...

I forgot that today is my 8th valversary; easy to do the longer time passes!

I was looking at the VR archives this morning, trying to find a thread regarding a former member, when I came across a thread I started the day I received my avr date. I scanned the thread, reading the various replies, and it was only later that I realized that today must be the anniversary of...

Happy birthday to Mike Marshall and Lynlw

I don't know where you two are hanging out these days, but wherever it is, I hope it's somewhere great for birthday celebrations. Happy birthday!:smile2:

    Cooker's Throwdown Friday 1-04-13

I suppose you can see from the picture Cooker's shared from his vacation hideaway that the Chimp's AWOL for a few more days, and he has asked if I would start this week's thread. I haven't weighed, still too early to face the scales, :eek2: but I will and use that number as my new starting...
