Constant Migraines, Neurologist appointment coming up soon

I get visual migraines whenever I get stressed. (That is, little prizms wandering through my visual field preventing me from seeing.) My close Marfan Syndrome friend, Patricia, had terrible painful migraines--once even overdosing (accidetally?) because her regular dose of pain meds did not...

Dissection In The News: Richard C. Holbrooke

I keep wondering if a "torn aorta" is the same thing as a disected aortic aneurysm. It seems to be the same thing to me. It is always sad when the "victim" of aortic calamidy does not know they are prone to this before it happens. He was in surgery a VERY long time, I think. 20 hours, wasn't...

    ATENOLOL 25mg

I started on Atenolol when my aneurysm first showed up on a routine chest X-ray around 1990. It made me feel depressed as well as tired. I found another beta blocker that suited me (called Zebeta then, not sure it is still made). Beta blockers kept me in the "waiting room" for almost 20 years...

I thought I was ready, but truth be told.......

I walked around knowing surgery was in my future for almost 20 years. Then I waited until my heart was so bad that I could only walk about 15 feet without stopping to catch my breath. It is really worth it to have the surgery, but you may not feel that way for a couple of days afterwards, ha ha!

one for the “repair vs. replacement” debate

I think the bovine valve was a good choice for someone who really would have rather had a repair instead of a new valve. I was 60 and hoped to NEVER have to have another OHS, so I chose a mechanical valve. It is all a crap shoot, of course, but I think my odds are better for never having to...

    Experiences at Johns Hopkins Hospital?

(I meant that VR kept eating my responses, for some reason, ha ha!)

    Experiences at Johns Hopkins Hospital?

This is my third time trying to post here, so I will leave out most of what I had written. I used my cell phone at Hopkins. I love Duke Cameron and the staff at Hopkins brought me much support and Christmas joy. Private message me if you want more info! You will be in good hands!

    aorta replacement

Sorry for the scary news BUT I have known several people who have had their entire aorta replaced. I am a bit confused. Are they talking of doing your whole aorta in one operation? Several years ago I had heard from surgeons at a conference that they usually do the whole aorta in two separate...

    Thoratic aneurysm advice please!

I lived almost 20 years with an aneurysm about the size of yours in my ascending aorta. (It was first seen on a routine chest x-ray.) When the aneurysm was first discovered the cut-off for surgery was way up to 6 cm. That was because the risk of the surgery was considered greater than the...

    Triscupid Regurgitation and PH

I guess I need to learn more about the tricuspid valve. 20 years ago on my first echo they found some problems with the tricuspid valve. I was told at the time to not worry More than one heart specialist said "You don't need your tricuspid valve. They could reomove it completely and you...

    Generic Bridging Worked OK

:D I am home from North Carolina (drove myself at the 3 1/2 week mark) but am still healing from my right hip replacement. I just thought I would point out that the generic bridging worked out just fine.

Maryka was having surgery this week. Anyone hear from her???

Thanks to all of you for visiting my thread and weighing in on North Carolina and on hip replacements! My hip is getting better every day, though not as quickly as some might heal, I guess. I will have the staples removed tomorrow by the visiting nurse. I will have my follow-up exam at the...

Maryka was having surgery this week. Anyone hear from her???

Hi! I had my hip replaced at Duke here in North Carolina. I am glad it is over and that I am at my friend Anne's house for recovery. I met the whole home health team today and ran through my new exercises. I am struggling to get my INR up where it needs to be, but my Hopkins cardiologist...

    Generic Lovenox for ME!

I survived the surgery and I am in the tail end of bridging. The orthopedic surgeon, though talented, was pretty hard on me--blaming me for not being an athlete. More on this at a later time. I am at my friend Anne's now and things are far better. The home nurse and home PT person are...

    Generic Lovenox for ME!

AgilityDog, Your posting will help others looking for prices, so thank you. I had to pay absolutely nothing for my RX because I had met my deductible with this health care plan I presently have, which pays all if the item is a generic! As for "the person who gives me the shot"--where can I...

    Generic Lovenox for ME!

I am starting the injection phase for the generic Lovenox. I am hoping it goes well with no surprise bleeding at the injection site. Luckily, a lot of the end of bridging is supposed to happen in the hospital where, presumably, the injectors know what they are doing. Also, they have "sharps"...

    Generic Lovenox for ME!

I had my pre-operative appointments on Tuesday. Duke is a pretty cool place! The nurse spent a long time discussing everything with me. She says they will be giving me my post-operative meds to bring my anti-coagulation up to the optimum level. However, they definitely plan to discharge me...

    Blood pressure - aortic aneurysm?

My BP is all over the place. I went on both beta blockers and regular BP meds as soon as my aneurysm was discovered. I had to get my own BP cuff (which I highly recommend to you). Even at home my BP will be all over the place but it is very much worse at the doctor's office unless they give...

    Lovenox generic

I had to pull the box of the Enoxaparin from my luggage. (I had better get it back into the luggage!) I got the 100 mg/ml dose which, weight-wise, seems appropriate for me. I know that with the Lovenox in March I had too much bleeding when I went on the Lovenox+warfarin after the "procedure"...

    Generic Lovenox for ME!

:eek2: I picked up my (generic) version of lovenox two days ago. I must take it with me when I drive down to North Carolina (in preparation for my hip replacement) tomorrow. I personally pointed out to the pharmacist that the generic version was on the market and that others in the US were using...
