I’m just tired of taking warfarin

This has been a wake up call. I’m back to taking my Warfarin, and I’ll pop back into this thread from time to time to maintain my motivation to do so. Thanks everyone, for your advice and concern.

I’m just tired of taking warfarin

I had my valve replaced in 2008. I’d been very diligent about dosing, and testing until about April of this year. I had a little surgery, and bridged with heparin but I am missing doses for weeks at a time. It’s like I just don’t care any longer whether I take my Coumadin, or any other...

    Airport X-ray

I travel between two and three times per week. The TSA doesn't care what set off the WTMD, and aren't interested in your card. My hip always sets off the WTMD, so I point at the penalty box before going through. Very rarely does a screener try to get me to go back through, since I am always...

    INR Discrepancy

I have been testing about once a week with my INRatio results in the 2.3 to 3.0 range for the past several weeks. Last night I tested and my INR was 2.4. A little low but not bad . . . So today I had to have a lipid panel done and the lab tech asked if I wanted a PT/INR done too. Sure, I...

Is exercise causing my INR to decrease?

Spring has sprung and I am getting out daily for long walks with the dog, and biking on the weekends. During the cold winter days, not so much. My INR had been holding steady at about 3.0-3.2 taking 3.5 mg per day. In the last week, I have lost 5 pounds (woot!!) and this morning when I tested...

    Cut myself!!!

Diana, Sorry that you dinged yourself. . . This time of year I spend way too much time with knives and other sharps. . . I always have a clotting agent around the house and in every first aid kit we have. I keep Celox in my biking and hunting bags, but there are others that work just as well...

    Who calls the shots?

Well, surgeon will be pretty much out of your case within 3 months or so post surgery. My cardiologist manages my INR and was happy to hear that I wanted to test at home, instead of driving to the lab, getting stuck, waiting for results . . aaargh! So that's what I do. QAS squared it up with...

Aargh. INR at 5.4 and I am going back on Antibiotics

Thanks Freddie and Rich. . . I was Levaquin a few weeks ago and said I would never use it again. I am allergic to penicillin so if they want to use the big guns it has to be one of the sulfa drugs. . . Sheesh. Thanks for the advice. I will be checking my INR's frequently.

    Machine is on its way!

I called QAS about August 20th. CIGNA approved it on August 26th and then QAS called me around September 10th or 11th. Machine arrived Sept 18 and I am scheduled for training on the 24th. So, overall about 6 weeks from start to finish. . .

    QAS turn-around time?

I submitted the paperwork Aug 20. Insurance sent me an approval 8/26 and I heard today that the unit will be shipping today. So, I am pretty pleased with the process and speed with which this turned around.

Just got the call from QAS. Training next Thursday by phone. This will be so much better than having to hike to the lab, register, wait, hike back home, wait for the results. . . Woo hoo!!

    shooting sports?

Mark, It's an urban legend. One night while investigating a silent alarm, I jacked a round into the chamber and the burglar came right at me. I had to buttstroke him with the gun. After I had him in cuffs, he told me that he intended to try and take the shotgun from me. Oh well, that didn't...

How do you get an insurance to let you go somewhere else?

I'm so glad that your pediatrician is looking out for your son and gave you such good advice. Best of luck in the job search, I know that is pretty tough these days.
