Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

Been a few years since I posted here. I've had 12 years amazing years with a Carpentier-Edwards Bovine Pericardial Aortic valve put in at Cleveland Clinic when I was 53. I had a few problems with intermitent A- fib that were solved with an ablation 2 years ago. Otherwise, I don't ususally think...

Cardiac Therapy a waste of time.

Tom, For me cardiac rehab was an excellent process to safely increase my physical activity after surgery. My cardiac rehab nurses, physical therapist, and exercise physiologist did an excellent job of increasing my MET (Metabolic equivalent) gradually as I improved in cardiac function. I think...

    My turn Wednesday Aug 15

avrguy, Nope, you are not the only one to feel that way. Hey, most of us were scared too- but we all deal with those fears differently going into it. If you can get in a positive mindset then great; but don't worry, your body knows what to do and it will heal up no matter what you are...

    Tissue valves in young patients??

Alex, Those are tough questions and the answers you will hear will vary all over the map. I had the same questions when I needed a new valve and I agonized over the decision and I'm 30 years older than you. I chose a tissue valve and right now I'm happy with that choice but ask me again when...

Surgery in Cleveland - Where to have heart cath?

I've had a lot of Echos in the last few years, but the most thorough of them all was done by the echo technician at Cleveland Clinic. She said the surgeon wanted specific video, pictures, and measurements and she took great strides to get them all done exactly right. I was impressed! John

Surgery in Cleveland - Where to have heart cath?

I had my cath done by my cardiologist in my hometown, but at the time he probably thought I was going to have my surgery locally as well. Cleveland did not seem to mind the cath. being done off site and I had it done a few months before my surgery so I was healed up from that before my surgery...

    One month post surgery

Hi Laggard, Welcome to the club! I can remember not being able to watch crime shows or news for about a month after surgery because of how I responded to watching bad things. And other times I would tear-up at the drop of a hat. I think our hormones are all messed up for a while from either...

Cort, It's been fun to read about your cars and trips over the years. Thanks for sharing those adventures with us. You know, one thing that you can't get rid of is your knowledge and expertise of Monte Carlos. That will stay with you forever. There will be other MCs in your life, they're out...

    All Colorado Members, Check IN!

We're doing OK in Ft Collins, but there were several days of smokey haze. It looks like they just about have the High Park fire west of us under control. Several friends had to evacuate their canyon homes for the past several weeks and luckily their home survived, but others were not so lucky...

    What was he thinking???

I guess I can state the obvious - "That he wasn't thinking" but I wonder if it was more of a scientific (doctor training) curiosity that led to his questions. He, like most people not directly affected, probably has little knowledge about our options or the implications of each option regarding...

How long were you in A-Fib

I was in A-fib and A-flutter for about a month or two after surgery before they did a cardioversion. They wanted to wait that long in order for my heart to heal up a bit from the trauma of the surgery with the idea that the cardioversion at that time would work better. John
