    15 years

15 years ago today, I was getting out of the hospital post-surgery and clutching that chest pillow like it was my job! Hard to believe it's been that long, and I've largely been able to do as I like since so I'm grateful for the success. A recent check-up may be pointing that some changes are...

    14 years today

14 years ago I left the hospital and into this new chapter. Couldn't be more grateful for the experiences and wisdom and support shared here over the years. It's a club no one wants to join, but I'm happy it's here, regardless.

    13 years today!

Hard to believe, but 13 years ago today I was in the hospital right now prepping for surgery. I'm grateful for all the time since and to be just living life with only a daily pill and some annual check-ups. Also, grateful for all of you and the support on here back then and continuing today.

    Thank you! 12 years somehow

A dozen years ago today I walked out of the hospital post-Ross procedure with lots of replacement bits, including what the surgeon described as a healthy dose of Dacron to hold it all together. The first couple years would have been far, far worse without this community so thank you, whether you...

    11 years whizzed by

Somehow it feels like yesterday and forever ago since my Ross procedure in fall 2007. Thank you to so many who have been supportive to me and others around here. You make such a difference every day, and I look forward to expressing that gratitude many years into the future.

    10 years today

It's hard to believe, but 10 years ago today I walked out of the hospital with some new pieces and some repaired bits. Certainly, there were plenty of challenges in the beginning, but after some slow healing for a couple years, all's been smooth sailing since with good annual check-ups and few...

    my longest run ever--20 miles

I did the longest run of my life last weekend, a 20-mile race through Texas hill country to prepare for next month's marathon. Most importantly, though, I did it in my VR.com shirt a local shop made for me (with Hank's blessing, of course). I hope the logo's visible in the photo--ignore the...

half marathon as a belated valversary celebration

I'm writing to say thank you to those who regularly post on this thread (and elsewhere, of course). In about 12 hours, I'll be starting the longest race I've ever done--a half marathon--and the generous people offering advice here are a huge part of the reason (so, yes, I'm also blaming you if I...

    VR.com shirts

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but I've searched and can't seem to find an answer. Are VR.com shirts available anywhere? Does the CafePress site still work (I can find multiple versions of this site with '05 or '06 reunion shirts, for example)? The main forum page has a section for the...

    beta blocker (metoprolol) weaning

Hi VR community, Quick question from a frequent lurker and rare poster: what timetables have worked for weaning off beta blockers? I searched the forums and found a few posts, but I'm sure more people than that have been down this road. The cardiologist made an offhand suggestion during my...

    heart rate monitor suggestions?

Hi, I was just curious if there are any specific heart rate monitors that people have found useful when working out. I'm preparing for the end of cardiac therapy and would like to follow my heart rate in future workouts (if only for the mental peace if nothing else). Challenge is, there are an...
