    BAV and Long Distance Running

Welcome....I had no limitations leading up to my surgery...I did a half just months before I went under the scalpel. My cardio just told me to listen to my body....and sure enough 2 months after the half, I could not finish a mile run. Good luck on your training...you can find more info on...

Be honest: can I do this?

Sorry I am late to the thread, but you have plenty of great advice here, fom some great people! You certainly can finish the race....but just a note abou you training. Your progress will be in fits and jumps....you will see little progress for awhile, then, boom, you will be running noticeably...

    Soccer

I agree with my buddy Kodi...keep working at it, listen to your body. Your fitness will not increase in a linear fashion but in jumps, then stagnate, then jumps.

14 weeks post valve repalcement and developed Pericarditis. Is excercise OK?

I would believe your cardio....they are usually conservative, so if they say go for it, then go for it! A great goal to do a half by September....what race are you shooting for?

    Exercise Post Aneurysm Repair

I cannot find any reason to not exercise, and I mean a good exercise....there are many here and at cardiac athletes that have had valves and aortas replaced, and have finished marathons....full on Ironmans....even competitive weight lifting....

    Exercising after surgery

I was running again at six weeks, although slowly. Your fitness will not come back all at once, it is more fits and starts.

    Run times and distance

Yes, what everyone else said! One year seems to be a point where you feel comfortable running again, but maybe not at your old pace. I did not see anything on drugs you are taking, but beta blockers make you feel slow... You néed to totally forget your old times...you are not recovering from a...

    Cardio Coach, anyone?

Welcome as a cardiac athlete, whether you go over there or not. First, your are really starting from scratch, not just a long injury time off. You might as well be a new runner, after what your body went thru. It takes about a year to totally recover your running. Also, it is important to...

porcine vs. bovine? any thoughts helpful

Kate, if I may, the porcine valve is the actual pig valve fom their heart. The bovine valve, made by Edwards, is made from the pericardial sac from the cow, and hand sewn into a valve. That is the difference. How well they work, or last....well, that is the great debate!!
