13-year run ending, question re: TAVR

Thank you for your reply. I'm 55. My Edwards valve was the largest one that they made, the dimensions escape me at the moment.

13-year run ending, question re: TAVR

Thank you for your insight. May I ask what is SVD? I did not have a bicuspid valve, I did have an aneurism which was addressed with the first surgery and is in good shape

13-year run ending, question re: TAVR

I suppose all good things must come to an end as I was recently diagnosed with serious regurg in my tissue valve which has served me well for 13 years. This is my first time back on this site in 12 years, it was so helpful to me back then. Based on reading only a few posts, I am reading here...

Aortic valve replacement with thoracic aortic aneurysm

Your story is similar to mine, I was diagnosed with a leaky aortic valve and aortic aneurism quite by accident, my cardiologist and I watched it for 4 years until finally it was time to do the AVR. I was slightly overweight and was told it was always better to lose weight but it was never a...

Getting ready for the big day

Good luck Greg, it will be over before you know it and you'll be recovering in no time, your age will be a big positive in the recovery process. You were lucky that it was discovered in the manner that it was and you had some time to educate yourself about it. I am coming up on my 2-year...

    During surgery questions???

If your experience is like mine, you'll walk into the OR, you'll lie down on the table, they'll insert the IV and you'll be out before you even feel drowsy. The next thing you'll know you'll wake up in ICU surrounded by your ICU nurse and your family, in the blink of an eye. In no pain, I may...

Stopping Amiodarone treatment for AFIB after AV replacement

I was on Amiodarone to control Afib before my surgery for about 9 months. I then had the Maze procedure at the same time as my AV replacement to address Afib permanently (hopefully!). To deal with post-surgery a-fib, my cardio put me on Multaq (dronedarone), which is considered the "son" of...

Study Supports Fixing Heart Valves Without Surgery

More studies need to be done, and this one was paid by Edwards, but good news nonetheless for tissue valvers. This is consistent with my research heading into my surgery almost 1 year ago! http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2011/04/03/health/AP-US-MED-Heart-Valves.html?_r=1&ref=aponline

    Amiodarone and Coughing

I was on it for a few months and never had any outward side effects. But I'm glad that your cough has stopped, these medicines affect everyone differently.

    still exhausted three weeks later?

Give yourself some time. I was back to work after 5-6 weeks, able to do my desk job but would still get winded going up stairs, still had to go to be early, etc. One day you'll realize that you're able to do everything that you were able to do pre-surgery, perhaps even better, it will happen...
