    Eight years and ticking on...

This time 8 years ago I was on the table, I woke up obviously. :D No problems in the past eight years, just an annual check up at the hospital following an echo and ECG. Also my GP sees me for a general check every three months for my repeat prescriptions.

Dental extraction with INR of 4.7

I just thought that it might put some minds at rest to post this. This morning I went to the hospital dental department as I had a molar which had partly broken, they phoned to ask me to be there for 11.15 as the dental surgeon had a cancellation so could see me then. I took some antibiotics...

    New 'super bug'

It has been on the news here in the UK about an antibiotic resistant bacteria which has been brought into the country by people having surgery in hospitals in countries such as India and Pakistan. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-10925411 Heaven only knows what would happen if one of us valve...

    Reasurring - MedicAlert bracelet

This morning I took part in a simulated major incident in which I was a casualty. My briefing was that I was unconscious, and was very seriously injured. When the ambulance arrived at the hospital I was wheeled into the A&E Department then quickly moved into 'Resus' since I was so badly...

    Five years old today!

Today is my valve birthday, five years and counting. I am feeling fine and exercising regularly, all in all I am much healthier now than before I first became ill with endocarditis.

    Missing valve?

Someone on another forum site I visit, not health related, asked for people to think of her d-in-l's brother who is in his early forties, they thought he had a heart attack but then discovered that he was born with only three heart valves and no one knew until now. Has anyone ever heard of such...

    The man is a sadist!

I have been going to the gym twice a week recently, prescribed by my GP, yes he had to write a prescription for it. I did it after my cardiac rehab but then it was three times a week and my sheet said no weights etc. After a while I stopped going then my cardiologist and GP wanted me to do more...

    Molar removed today

I went and had my INR checked this morning and it was 3.1 which is near the bottom of my range, then this afternoon went to the hospital dental surgeon to have my right bottom molar removed. The procedure was totally painfree which is unlike now, the local anaesthetic has worn off and it is...

    Replacement statistics

Does anyone know the number of people, say in 10,000 who have valve replacements and also how many have double valve replacements? The population of where I live is approximately 95,000 and my postman told me today there are two of us double valvers living here - he asked his wife if she knew...

    INR is 4.8

The instruction is to miss two doses then go back in three weeks but looking back at my records when I was at 4.7 not long ago I skipped one dose then was re-tested in four weeks and was 3.8 so I think I will just skip the one dose again this time. My range is 3.0 to 4.0 so it really isn't high...

    Cardiovascular distress

Anyone heard that term before? I went to my primary care doctor (GP) on Monday for my three monthly review, he does a general check, weighs me, does blood pressure, listens to my heart then gives me three months supply of prescriptions. My cardiologist told me to get him to refer me to the gym...

    Annual check tomorrow

This ought to be interesting, this is my first check-up as a 'public' patient, I have always had private health insurance until last year. What will be most interesting is the lack of medical records as here private patient records belong to the doctor who treated you, so the urologist will...

    Flipping sore throat

My little grandson gave me a cold and sore throat last week, my throat started hurting on Tuesday. I have been watching my temperature to be sure that it wasn't swine flu, and it is not, no aches and pains either. However my throat has become more painful, not less so, as time progresses so I...

    Ouch, INR under my range

I had my INR tested yesterday and when my book arrived in the post today, it showed that my INR was 2.5 and with a range of 3.0 to 4.0 that is not good. I have been taking 5.5mg per day but on Monday I forgot to take it - I told the phlebotomist and it was noted on my test slip. The...

    Tooth extraction and warfarin

I have just come from the hospital dental surgeon who was cleaning my teeth me and during his check of my teeth he said (again) about probably removing one of my back teeth, I am not sure if it a wisdom tooth or a molar, probably a molar. After my scaling he said that he wants to remove the...

    Visit to the dentist today

Today I had my appointment at the hospital dental department to have my teeth cleaned. As per the agreement on my last visit I took my 3 grams of Amoxillon an hour before. Before he started work the dental surgeon told me that last week the local cardiologist gave a talk to dentists in this...

    My poor, poor doctor

The other day I went for my three monthly check with my GP to collect prescriptions and to be generally checked over. Whilst I was there I asked for the results of the CT colonography I had a while back and hadn't bothered to phone about. As suspected there was nothing nasty in my colon, just...
