    Surgery this Wednesday

Covering 8 km in under 2 hours 20 days after OHS is quite excellent! Hope you keep up the walks after your nominal recovery time is over :)

    Ross vs Mechanical

It seems grapefruit is not recommended when you are on Wellbutrin either. Although it could be a matter of dose...

Aortic Aneurysm & Bicuspid Aortic Valve Surgery Question/Decisions

The primary cause (aortic valve issue) has to be addressed now, and that's the driving factor. This is a strong enough reason not to delay the intervention. The aneurysm size you have is rather small. It's barely qualifies as an aneurysm. (Sometimes the threshold of 4.0 is used. But, as...

    Surgery scheduled in two weeks

I think it's THIS paper. Screenshot of their Figure 2 illustrates the method. There is a pointer to the more information.

    Surgery scheduled in two weeks

There was a writeup I remember finding. Will try to check later today, when I'm at home. Somebody figured out how to use the arms without stressing the sternum (meaning less involvement of the chest muscles). I recall a feature of keeping the elbows tucked in at the torso at all times, and just...

3 Weeks to go......... to Big Surgery

Thanks for the update. It makes sense. The immune system will be temporarily disrupted post-op. So they don't want any infections, especially respiratory ones. If they already gave you spirometer, you can practice with it (in moderation). That's what I would do. It helps to prepare the lungs...

    PVL Closure

Thanks for posting. I would query the doctors after TEE about the repeat leak, if it's confirmed. Such possibility sounds unusual (to me). There must be a reason for it, that could be relevant for the next course of action. Good luck!

    Post Surgery A-Fib

I had 2 occasions: 2 days after surgery and 4 weeks after. Mine settled down (never happened since). I believe in most cases it does. If Afib continues, then they will probably change the course of actions. Amiodarone is a strong medication (it has like 3 different action mechanisms), but...

    Surgery this Wednesday

Then you should be VERY fit. And you are VERY young (the average age for OHS is about 65 years old). Both factors are in your favor. They mean that you should be able to recover from the surgery very quickly.

The Beat Goes On... Just got some funk to it

Had 2 episodes. One was in the hospital, on the 2nd day after surgery. Got amiodarone as well, that was in total about 5 weeks (low dose after discharge). 2nd time was about 4 weeks out, while still on amiodarone. That time, it self-converted to sinus rhythm. Hasn't happened since (1.5 years later).

3 Weeks to go......... to Big Surgery

Good luck with the surgery! Wishing you a fast recovery. Yes, the list includes multiple procedures, but they are all relatively common. Good thing this was found out! As I understand the guidelines, either triple case or LAD involvement by themselves would imply surgery over stenting. And...

iPad can stitch images?? That's can be kinda very useful... Thanks!

The therapeutic benefits of Taylor Swift...

Liberally, it seems :) (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) The exact etymology is beyond me. But the word is featured in several fixed phrases. E.g. "liberal elites" is a code word for the political right-wing for the left-wing people. And "liberal arts" can be opposed to trade or professional degrees.

The therapeutic benefits of Taylor Swift...

Well, the university being the beneficiary (not a sponsor) is something I understand :) But I'm struggling to understand how one does the grant-hunting without even being admitted or having the proper titles. You might need to find a sympathetic advisor to start with. Well, the profit-deriving...

The therapeutic benefits of Taylor Swift...

I guess it's a local slang then... thanks for pointing it out! You need to find the grants? Isn't it a job for the adviser (after you get admitted to the school, and actually choose the adviser)?

The therapeutic benefits of Taylor Swift...

I'm more used to people with the liberal arts degrees having employment issues... Sounds like an unusual career path. As it happens, it felt like Friday for a few days now. Might be a state of mind 🤔 or body  . I'd better get a drink. After all, the calendar says it is Friday (still)...

The therapeutic benefits of Taylor Swift...

(More) seriously, my music preferences are from college days. So classic rock it is! I've been wondering if the same "stuck in the past" phenomenon is universal. Totally off-topic, of course. Sounds like Friday :)
