    Bentall & Freestyle

I was 48 and had the same thing, accidentally discovered during a calcium score scan. I've been reassured multiple times that this is a blessing and definitely not a curse. I think its generally accepted that the alternative would have been toes up in the dirt. The clicking and the warfarin...

AVR with Replacement of Ascending Aorta and Triple CABG

That time between my cardiologist explaining things to me, the thoracic surgeon finding the opening in his schedule and then finally having the surgery, was probably some of the longest in my life. Amazing how much weight you can lose when you've got one thing on your mind, all the way through...

Mechanical valves ... but what about the ticking?

I did, and they confirmed it. I have a cpap machine (got it following my "meeting the crap out of my deductible following open heart surgery") but I can't sleep worth a lick with it on my face. It feels like Alien! I couldn't sleep on my sides for months, it was very painful right down my...

Mechanical valves ... but what about the ticking?

I know I "pushed through it" after surgery. I'm probably way more a side sleeper than on my back (I snore so it keeps my wife awake!), but obviously spent all recovery time on my back until my chest healed. No matter how hard I tried, it was painful within a few minutes of trying to lay on my...

AVR with Replacement of Ascending Aorta and Triple CABG

Yep! Discovered the aneurysm (5.1cm) during a routine calcium score ordered up by my primary care doctor.. went back and did a second CT with contrast to confirm the aneurysm. Then they followed with an echo and determined the valve had to go as well. Although not named specifically by my...

Mechanical valves ... but what about the ticking?

I am almost in this exact same boat, almost point for point. My first trip to the bathroom after leaving ICU following surgery, my wife was helping me shower for the first time in days, and we both could actually "HEAR" it.. from the OUTSIDE with my ears. It had a more thumpy sound, I'd call...

    5 months post-surgery -- thumping heart beat

Hey Justin, It's been 3 years since I had the same exact set of procedures. At my last cardio visit, I asked my doctor about this very same thing. I just felt that something like that would have subsided over the past 3 years, but its only changed slightly. Mine is in specific situations...

How much warfarin do you take to get to an inr of 2.5 to 3.5?

But thats Missouri partying, not Louisiana partying. Pretty sure there's a good bit of difference, but Columbia is (was) my last stop in the SEC before OK and TX join us next year. Of course @pellicle is an Aussie, so he's probably got us both beat. Probably not a stone though as most people...

How much warfarin do you take to get to an inr of 2.5 to 3.5?

Thanks doc! I've never had it happen until I began taking warfarin and my INR rose after a few days of partying, so I'm going to go with this time for me, my INR was high and I began passing blood in my urine. That's why I referenced the other post that apparently had the same issue.

How much warfarin do you take to get to an inr of 2.5 to 3.5?

Right there with you Gail, 7.5 MWF and 5.0 the other days. Has worked well for the past 2 years. I also didn't realize from the "how high have you seen" thread that the blood in the urine was a seemingly universal indicator of elevated levels. My diet remains pretty routine, and all it took...

    mechanical-heart-valve-noise-may-cause-sleepless-nights

I think I fall into the category like a few others on here, I take COMFORT in hearing my valve. While in ICU I had the chest tube vacuums running the whole time, got used to that sound. Before I got home, I had my wife by a simple sound machine. I use the babbling brooke since it sounds...

    Aorta: The Next Generation

I lost my father at the age of 10. He'd previously had a heart attack (from what I recall being told at a young age). His second "attack" for some reason rang as an aortic "something or another". I always recalled it as being an aneurysm, but looking back he certainly wouldn't have had...

    Warfarin and holiday

We spend a lot of time at the beach, generally lounging and enjoying our group of friends. Our daily routine prior to my surgery was to gather up the chairs and head down and usually drink a few beers throughout the day. As my mother in law would say, we try to pace ourselves by also drinking...

Recovering from TAVR 31 January 23.

@art.mouton is a friend who I introduced to the board when he followed me with his own surgery. We also happen to live about 4 blocks apart, so we're always on one frequency or another. I'm a Kenwood man myself with a bunch of them, including a 590 and a 890. My current rig is the above Flex...

Small look at 10 meters this weekend with the ARRL DX CW contest. 10 watts and a wet noodle.

Scientific discussion on the effects of near field, high powered RF 🎙️📡 on valve replacements! I'm a Medtronic clicker with a Flex 6500 and a Kenwood TS890s. :D And yes, you should be back in it. FWIW, the solar flux is hanging around 215, it is literally 10m, 10watts and a wet noodle time...

Recovering from TAVR 31 January 23.

And you got a free repair of the backup battery in your extremely old Yaesu dual band radio for free (well a poboy, but shhhh we don't talk about that on these forums!!). Glad you found the site and glad you're doing well. Now if only we could hear the 3Y0J. :)

Question about warfarin dosage and your INR's reaction time

It was more of a question as opposed to shoo'ing it off. However I'd probably lean towards Tom's thought, that you never know what you're going to get on Ebay. The Coaguchek market may be a bit more reliable than the cheap chinese knockoff electronic part market that I routinely deal with from...

Question about warfarin dosage and your INR's reaction time

Thanks for both replies @pellicle as well. That's really the point I wanted to understand, the drop could have occurred anywhere over the past month, but most likely not because of a single one off meal that contained spinach or broccolli or whatever. My clinic nurse pushes the "high K"...

Question about warfarin dosage and your INR's reaction time

Not the case at all, it's all new to me, so its all useful. My intent isn't to discuss the merits of self testing or not regardless of reason. Based on the fact that you self test frequently you're in a much better position to know the answers to my original questions. So I'm still curious...
