37 yr old with BAV and Severe AR

Sam, I traveled from Central Florida to CC - Cleveland 3 years ago for my AV and AA surgery. I was able to send them digital copies of my recent echo and CT scan. Details are in this thread - starting at post #21...

    Update!

Sookygal, Perhaps your next scan will really tell the tale. 4.1 is not typically anywhere near the danger zone which seems to be at or greater than 5.0. And it seems highly likely that you are presently at 4.1 since you have the 2nd test to confirm. If you experience any growth in the size...

3 Weeks to go......... to Big Surgery

Quite a menu! The good news is that modern medical treatment has made tremendous strides in this area and those of us with these heart issues are the beneficiaries. There are no guarantees but the success rate is very high for these surgeries. It's an extended lease on life. Best wises for a...

Should I push to replace my mid ascending aorta?

My experience with CC in 2021: My AVA and AA both tested severe and my local Cardiologist recommended a consult with a surgeon. I waited six months and had the tests repeated to confirm the test results. They were confirmed. I contacted the office at CC - Cleveland of the surgeon that I was...

60YO woman with BAV and severe stenosis

I was mostly without symptoms but when my test results declined into severe - i.e. .9 on the aortic valve (and 5.0 on the aortic aneurysm), I got a second opinion with a second set of tests to confirm that the test results were accurate. They were confirmed and I made the appointment for the...

Hi and welcome. Nice to see another septuagenarian on here. (y) With respect to Aortic Aneurysm, I am puzzled by your Dr. advising you to slow down due to risk of a tear at a measurement of 4.0. Are you seeing a cardiologist? Is there some other factor than the AA that's driving that advice? I...

My follow up scans didn’t go as planned

IMO, the progression rate of an AA is highly variable. Case in point - mine: First diagnosed at age 53 @ 4.7. Took 15 years to get to 5.0 and stayed at 5.0 for another 3 years until my BAV was the deciding factor to proceed with surgery. YMMV Monitoring an AA with periodic testing is almost...

Ascending Aortic Aneurysm & Silver Lining

Interesting info that I had not heard before. Thanks for posting. My story, just for an informal data point: My family history is dismal: Paternal GF died late 60s from long-term cardio disease. Father died from long term cardio disease early 80s. Both had multiple MIs before it killed them...

    TAVR

So, what company/valve will be used as a replacement? Best wishes for a successful surgery and a complete recovery. Will be watching for your updates as the optimist in me thinks I might be a candidate in 15-20 years - maybe sooner.

    Cardiac Catheterization

Another experience of expecting blockage. Dominant family history and years of taking meds for high cholesterol. But the test showed 20% in one artery. Standard for intervention at CC was >80%. Statens worked for me. The test went fine. Cath in the right wrist.

What's the longest someone's bovine aortic valve has lasted?

    Questions on Selecting a Surgeon

Lots of good advice here. I went to CC in Cleveland because they had a first rate surgeon AND first class facilities AND first class staff that contribute to their record of achieving excellent outcomes. At CC no matter who the lead surgeon is, it is likely that a resident will open and...
