Covid 19 Vaccine For Post Op

Since I was original poster to this question, inquiring what post-op people’s heart doctors are advising their post-OHS patients regarding taking the vaccine, I wanted to do a follow up on my 83 year old Mother’s experience with the vaccines. (Refresh memory: she had her second OHS, full...

Confidence...if only there was a pill

Faith in God was the ONLY thing that prepared my Mom mentally and spiritually for her second OHS at age 83. And the ONLY thing that gave her 7 siblings comfort the days leading up to, and through her surgery, and gave the strength she, and the family needed, to get through the surgery, the post...

Covid 19 Vaccine For Post Op

Update on 83 year old Mom. She received her first vaccine yesterday. She had aortic and mitral bovine replacement and tricuspid repair in August 2020. Had vaccine in the RIGHT arm. She said a bit sore during the night in her arm but the next day she felt totally fine. Siblings were split down...

Covid 19 Vaccine For Post Op

Yeah. That’s why I asked what you were referring to. I looked for it but I didn’t scroll up far enough to see. But with that said, people are entitled to their own opinion, as far fetched as it may seem. Though you are right, it has not been proven and so why mention it here, and divert from the...

Covid 19 Vaccine For Post Op

Enough said about what? We are learning as we go, and we share information, just as we recently learned about the cases in Norway that had effects on some elderly patients types. Only time will tell more and more and praying the long term results are as promising as they are predicting for the...

Covid 19 Vaccine For Post Op

I was basing it off of waiting 3 weeks after the FIRST shot (50% effective) and for the second shot, another 3 weeks just to be on the extra safe side with my Mom. I am not sure how long the second shot takes to kick in for 95% effectiveness.

Covid 19 Vaccine For Post Op

Update on my Moms cardiologist appointment, 4 months post op. She is doing great! He doesn’t want to see her back until September unless she is experiencing symptoms that concerns her. So that’s the good news! As far Covid vaccine, he said it was up to her if she wants it. I suppose that is...

Covid 19 Vaccine For Post Op

No worries. My wording in original post wasn’t great and I could see where it could be construed differently. My mom sees her cardiologist in a week and we’ll find out what he tells her. It’s amazing how well she is doing in spite of he second open heart surgery in 4 years (the first operation...

Covid 19 Vaccine For Post Op

Sounds like you misunderstood what l meant in my wording. 1. When I said “fresh” bovine, I meant that my Mom just HAD the valves replaced (like “fresh” off the press; not that the bovine is alive.) 2. The reactions I am referring about are the allergic reactions from the Vaccination. 3. The...

Covid 19 Vaccine For Post Op

I understand enough to know in a nutshell how it works. However, as we start to hear more about allergic reactions, and people having side effects, i am wondering what heart doctors are telling their patients who recently underwent surgery. I read where some people who received the vaccination...

Covid 19 Vaccine For Post Op

My mother had aortic and mitral valve bovine replacement and tricuspid repair in September at 83 years old. She is doing amazingly well thanks be to God and her fabulous Doctor in Scottsdale Arizona. My question to the post-oppers, is what are all your cardiologist saying about taking the Covid...

    COVID and Rehab

Hello, I’d like to get opinions on what everyone post op is doing for cardio physical therapy with Covid. I am asking for my 83 year old Mom who just started her rehab at a facility in Scottsdale, Arizona. And now the number of cases are rising. Should she hold off? Are there programs I should...

    Back to Back TAVRs

We thought my 83 year old mother was a for sure candidate for her second aortic replacement with TAVR, 5 weeks ago. It got more complicate when we learned her Mitral also needed replacement and tricuspid repaired. However heart surgeon said that TAVR was not the best option long term for her. He...

Mild regurgitation post mitral valve repair surgery

Wow! Amazing! What type of valves did they replace with?

Mild regurgitation post mitral valve repair surgery

My elderly Mom’s echo did not show severity of her situation (after 4 years from Minimum Invasive OH to replace aortic) for her regurgitated Mitral that she has had for DECADES, until they did a TEE (that also revealed her damaged Aortic and Tricuspid issues.) And it wasn’t until her sternum OH...

    Staying the Course -- September 9, 2020

My 83 year old mom is almost 4 weeks post OH sternum, replacement of Mitral and Aortic (bovine) and repair Tricuspi. She is doing very well! Make sure you have comfortable recliner when you get home. Getting in and out of bed is the hardest for a couple of weeks. She is taking 2 Tylenol every 8...

Triple Valve Replace/Repair 83 year old Mom

That is true! Hard to communicate without using the hands! We had a good FaceTime call with Mom yesterday afternoon once she moved to her room. She was communication much better and the mom that we knew was back. Still a little off but progressing. She said to call her back because she was...

Triple Valve Replace/Repair 83 year old Mom

Sorry to hear about your son in law’s condition. I know visitation is sensitive due to the virus for any patient in a hospital. We were hoping one of us, who is the least exposed and not going out, could get in to be with her. This is a tough operation and recover even more tougher. And now more...

Triple Valve Replace/Repair 83 year old Mom

MdsPA: yes, thank you for clarifying the name of the fluid complication, pleural effusion. And it was thoracentisis that they had done to her lungs. Yesterday they removed tubes from her chest so I hope that means, the procedure helped. And wow! Your wife had 3 OHS! That’s amazing. Please tell...
