Thought I was done with CardioNet

Check with your states' laws and your insurance company re: how far back they can send you a bill. In some states it's one year but others it can be longer. Seems kind of high for only 2 bills. Is this the full "non-contracted" amount that was submitted to your insurance company or the amount...

    Lipoprotein(a) | Lp(a) test

Not understanding this but if you are trying to say here that a PCSK9 Inhibitor "is a Statin", that is not correct. Also, Lipoprotein apheresis is another known treatment to lower Lp(a).

    Different strokes...

I'm sure there are disfigured people out there that would gladly trade the scar(s) on their face with a scar on their chest. Your question never came up with my wife's 3 OHS. It's not a scar to her, it's her lifeline.

Anyone had 3 valve replacement surgeries?

Yes, she is! She never complained once during her recoveries from OHS, always did what she was told and most importantly, she walked, walked and then walked! She would walk the hospital halls day and night as she knew that was the ticket to recovery and getting out of there. So after you wake...

    Ross vs Mechanical

This is the reasoning behind using the autograft PV in the AV position. It is living tissue, has living cells and can grow or reshape to it's new position. This is one of the "selling" points for the Ross. We would like to think we made the right decision but who knows. Would she had been...

    Ross vs Mechanical

Not sure why I capitalize "ROSS"- bad habit I guess. Yes, this is my account and I post to get and communicate information for my wife (no valve surgeries for me but may need some form of intervention in future for CAD if med's and diet don't pan out). Replacing the AV with a homograft instead...

    Ross vs Mechanical

My wife had a ROSS procedure, along with a MV commissurotomy (repair), in 1997. Her AV and PV's were then replaced in 2017 (so she got 20 years) but it was her failing MV that necessitated this surgery, not her AV or PV. The surgeon said "while I'm in there I might as well do an over-hall of all...

    More lancet talk (Coaguchek Sofclix)

Have you seen pellicle's rubber band technique to help get a larger drop of blood? https://www.valvereplacement.org/threads/a-quick-video-on-my-technique-using-the-roche-coaguchek-xs.888982/#post-922922

    Ross vs Mechanical

Here is one explanation from an experienced Ross surgeon: And https://consultqd.clevelandclinic.org/the-ross-procedure-in-a-reoperative-setting-a-case-study They actually have a procedure for this, it's called the "Ross reversal". https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8689672/

PDF from STS What to expect after OHS

After 14 years since the OP posted that link, you can expect that things may have changed/moved around a bit. Perhaps this is the link to the doc you were looking for? What to Expect After Heart Surgery

    Calcified Mitral valve surgery options

Just to clarify, all these procedures are invasive as they require cutting, needles, caths, etc. I think you meant minimally invasive procedures. Non invasive is used more in terms for diagnostic testing like MRI, echo, CT scan, etc where no cutting is required.

    Calcified Mitral valve surgery options

Sure, there is plenty of information out there re: these procedures. However, you will need to confirm with a surgeon if these minimally invasive procedures are contraindicated in your situation or not as you have had a prior MV repair. Mitral Valve Minimally Invasive Surgical Treatment...

    Calcified Mitral valve surgery options

Yes, it's an option in the hands of an experienced valve repair surgeon. But as you know, if a 2nd repair is even doable in your case, it may require intervention at some point down the road again. Mitral Valve Repair

    Tooth Extraction

She got physically sick from swallowing too much blood (called gastrointestinal distress) and passed out. Took her to ER where they gave her protonix to calm her stomach down which she ended up having an allergic reaction to (making a long story short here). All that on top of her bleeding mouth...

    Tooth Extraction

In my wife's case they did apply super "dental" glue after the bleeding started but it did not hold-up to the hydrostatic pressure of the liver clot (kind of like caulking a crack to stop a water leak coming from a basement foundation).

    Tooth Extraction

My wife had a gum procedure a few years back and experienced liver clots as well. Her INR was 2.5 for the day of the procedure (as suggested) and she went a few days afterwards without any bleeding. Then, as with you, it started bleeding a couple of days later and formed liver clots. The dentist...

    That explains it. Thanks.

Back on the merry-go-round, or just caffeine?

Do you have a pacemaker, an ICD or one of those combo models (acts as both)? If you have an ICD or a combo model, why didn't it automatically defibrillate your heart when it detected an abnormal rhythm? If you just have a pacemaker, I'm confused how your doctor changed the "setting the...

Is the U.S. the only country that requires a prescription for anticoagulation testers?

In addition to a prescription/order from a Doctor, per Roche, a patient also needs to subscribe to a "paid" service through one of the authorized companies, not through a point-of-sale/medical equipment distributor, in order to "officially"obtain a CoaguChek XS and/or strips.
