The end of the beginning, the beginning of the end or new beginnings?

Yes, she did. I would agree that glue reduces scaring as the scars from my drain tubes which were stitched are more noticeable then from my incision. John K

How soon will work & driving resume after AVR

I had my surgery last year and was approved to drive by my doctors at four weeks. That is also when I was approved to resume office work, it was 3 months before I was approved to resume field work. One of the precautions I was told to take was to not expose my chest to a airbag for at least...

    Imminent AVR - 40 y.o. female - advice please

Unless you plan to take a very long shower you shouldn't have any issues. They will have you up and walking around before you leave the hospital and will probably give you the opportunity to shower while there. John K

    Surgery completed Dec 17th-questions

If you haven't been cardio converted before, it is not a big deal. After my surgery the end of January last year I was in AFIB and cardio converted before I even left the hospital. I ended up going into AFIB 2 more times and being cardio converted with the last time being the middle of March...

    A slight crisis of confidence

You are where I was last year, a aortic aneurism was discovered the end of Dec last year during unrelated medical testing that resulted in surgery at the end of January 2020. Yes, you will have multiple hospital visits initially (pre and post surgery) but they taper off. In my case the surgery...

    Smart Watch etc. Heart Arrythmias

I looked at watches earlier this year, but ended up buying a device that linkś to my phone from Amazon. It is a small rectangle with two contact pads on it. Knocking sensation on sternum

I have noted the same after my surgery, when I asked my surgeon about it I was told it was my heart beating. It has deminished with time, I am just over 4 months post surgery. I found when laying on my right side it was apparent and when laying on my left side less apparent. If I am up moving...

    Post Op Day 4

I am not remembering having any type of dressing on the stiches were the drain tubes came out once I left the hospital, however the best route is to ask the nurse. I also wouldn't make any bets on cardiac rehab, while they shut it down about the middle of March here in Nebraska, they started it...

    Post Op Day 4

All I did was to keep trying to do better. The version I had came with a movable indicator on the side and I kept moving it to the highest I got and would then try to do better. Don't worry if you can't hit the goal every time as long as you keep trying you will get through this.

    Post Op Day 4

Just had valve replacement surgery the end of January. I The more you use the spirometer the quicker you will get better results. Try blowing out through it as well as breathing in, once I started doing that I made quicker progress. As for pain, I was off narcotics within a week and all...
